Ok, I would have to admit. Sometimes I miss the smell of a 2 smoke. But that's where it ends! There is no way I would ever go back to the break downs! 4 stroke 4 ever!

About to pull the trigger on a 13 Pro 600... would have preferred to stay in the Yamaha family but unfortunately they just couldn't / didn't pull it together with the new model to replace / fix the Nytro issues. Still love the 4 stroke power but the issue for me is the chassis - that what Yamaha needs to focus on and then it would be on top!

In a heart beat!!! I just purchased a yz250 (10+ year old engine technology) and man does it rip a$$, 50+ hp from that little 250 cc is awesome, the smell don't bother me at all. But I'm love with my boosted nytro too :sled1:

Not going back to a 2 stroke AND let me say a 900 Ace is a very likely addition to our toy box due to weight ride mpg and variable tune. I love my Attak and will own a Viper too but having a machine that can be nice sled for me my wife and my daughter is a huge draw. A real credit to Skidoo. A variable tune plant in a Viper chassis would have us at hello for sure.

The viper is a replacement for the nytro non mountain models

I'm going to be in the market for a new sled next year and I will not even consider a yamacat. Yamaha has the resources and the deep pockets to come up with their own snowmachine. If nothing amazing comes from the yamaha mountain division I'll be on a doo next year

Just make sure to wear fireproof pants! :-o

I'm not discounting 2 strokes, but for most of my riding, a 4 stroke fits perfectly. Less noise, no smoke, far better reliability. The ONLY engines that could change my mind are the direct injection etec powerplants. I've followed that technology on the outboard side of the house and its been impressive. Better emissions, quieter, and better MPG's than 4 strokes! Reliability would still be my concern, how long does the top end last.

They haven't done anything in 10 years so what makes you think they will now . This merger is the best thing Yamaha has done I think , the yamacat is a way better than anything Yamaha has to date, it just seems kinda odd once the doo/cat thing settles Yamaha and cat come out with this maybe they have been working together for a while on the procross chassis ... Anyways
See you on DOOTALK next year

Sure but they still didn't get the weight out! Friend went from rev to the cat 1100 and does not like it - too heavy ... swapping out the suzuki for yam won't magically make it lighter. As stated I love the Nytro motor but the chassis / weight / balance is too much to forgive / overlook. A few enterprising riders have grafted / transplanted a nytro motor into a pro chassis and a few have built their own tube chassis which appear to be very capable. At approx 25 lbs, the weight difference between the 2 s 800's and the nytro plant is not that large.

BTW I did pull the trigger on a pair of Pro 600's so I guess I'll have to wait a few more years to see if Yamaha can pull it together - still holding on to the 5 phasers in the shed.

The 4 stroke is a perfect fit for me. I have been on my 05 RX1 since 06 and I am riding it again this year. I hope to be get something different soon. I just wish Yamaha had a better chassis of there own. Love my motor!

Without getting into a 2 versus 4 debate (let's not muck up the thread) it looks like Yamaha could pick up additional sales by going back and offering a 2-stroke. When you take a step back and look at the company, it really doesn't make sense why they don't? They are the only Japanese OEM that still offers 2-stroke motocross bikes and they still offer 2 stroke outboards. Makes you wonder why they don't offer the same choice to their snowmachine customers?

The next 5-years will be interesting to see what they do. Their next anniversary is 2016 and I think we'll be looking at a line-up filled with blue, Yamaha powered Arctic Cats. I don't think that would be a bad thing since they would come with competitive chassis.

If the mountain sled release by Yamaha next winter does not prove to be a great re-design and improvement (including more HP) over the Nytro mtx then I will consider a two stroke. Enjoyed riding the 162" Pro RMK last winter with Burandt in the steep dense trees where the least weight is a real advantage.
