Would you Phazer riders like the Phaser engine in a Pro-cross chassis?

Some talk came about and I think it would be cool if the Phazer engine came in the Pro-cross chassis....same chassis as the Viper.

Daydreaming of a 100 horse 500cc twin Phazer engine, 137" suspension and a 1.6" track.....

Not sure. I've only demo ridden the Viper, and really like its ergos ... but I think 100 hp in that chassis might not be enough. I like the Phazer for what it is. Yes, it would be nice to have a few more ponies, but I would only want more power in limited situations like deeper snow off trail riding. I guess it depends on who you ask, but I'm just not a speed racer kinda guy. I like going off trail, settling into the solitude under my helmet and just seeing where I can take the sled. It's not the destination, it's getting there that makes it fun for me.

I almost bought a Viper in 2014, but I'm not one to buy a first year model so I waited to see how things panned out. As it turns out, I'm not disappointed at all because for me, the Viper still has issues I'd like to see Yamaha address and while it's a really nice trail sled, I think I'd buy a Renegade 900 ACE if all I wanted was 100-ish Hp 4-stroke trail sled. As it stands right now, I'm leaning toward the Doo Freeride 137, but that depends on what is offered up in 2016.

Id take the ride quality of that chassis for sure. Not sure what the Genesis 80 would feel like in that sled. I rode an 800 cat and the power was great, but I was more impressed in the ride quality and control of the sled. It was lightyears ahead of this phazer chassis. Dunno I guess...??

A set of GOOD shocks and the phazer rides great, the handling it still a bit wonky but I think it handles better off trail than the vipers do. Viper is a great all around machine though but I'd like to see a bit more than the high strung Phazer 500 in that chassis, a new bigger twin than makes 100hp without gear reduction would be perfect and might actually make me look at a new yamaha. Although the clearance prices that just hid the vipers are have me thinking, I've seen new 2015 STX-DX and XTX models right at 9000$ in the past few days. They don't need much more to have more power than an 900 ace, I've lined up against 2 so far and had them beat until 80 mph on my speedo where they slowly passed me.

I hear ya on the 100 hp power in this chassis, the chassis is an outstanding platform to make you want to go faster and faster.....but the Phazer engine, even if hopped up to 100 ponies, would not be a fast trail machine....more like an off-trail lightweight entry sled.

Seems like the smooth riding of the chassis....you need more power to make it stand up in comparrison to the Viper chassis because it can't be beat. I think this combo would be awesome for just playing, off-trail and like you said....see where it takes you.

I know my youngest would love it.

;)!

Hmmmmmmm, this one makes ya think.

I've test riden Vipers 4 times now. I'd pick the Phazer chassis hands down.
Vipers are fun, powerfull as heck. Alot of Push or to much power and rear end is trenching and zig/zaggin.
Tested, Field, trail, Lake, Ditches from powder to lower snow.
Turn down the power a notch and you may be onto something here.
Would it interest me, owning 2 Phazers. No. Not at all.
Ok, who am I kidding, Would definatly interest me!!

I'd have to disagree with the Phazer "not being a fast trail machine"
Under powered yes. Piped with say 90(ish)hp even better.
Clutching and serious contendor IMHO.
From low sno, to groomed grippy trail to powder I think the chassis puts the power to the ground almost perfectly.
Where the others come out with alot of spin (trenching) , or trail ripping power, the lil Phazer just grips and pulls hard.
More power to the ground ups the tip factor, more track spin lowers the tip factor. Agreed tip factor is higher with the Phazer so you have not option but to "Ride" it. I think this is where the general opinion of this not being a really good trail machine comes into play.
As an ATV racer, I've always been in the train of thought (and totally proven) that chassis and suspension should be your #1 modification. You will get more pwer to the ground with suspension AND last a good hard 10 mile blast opposed to a modded engine that will tucker you out in 1 mile trying to hang onto.:dunno:

To summarize, If they did impliment into the entery level market I believe they would soon realize they've kicked the crap out of the compition....Again!
:yam:

ATV Pro - you are like me then....raced 3 wheelers 1983-1986, then switched to quads and you are right...HP isn't everything. I know it would seem like the most power wins, but I remember a Blaster quad setup for ice ovals that nobody could touch and I had a very quick and could turn on a dime 250r. But I would cringe everytime he would jump into my class cause I knew I couldn't get around him if I didn't get the holeshot. He could run wide open, never let off, toss it sideways and keep going for 5 laps. Finally gave up the ATV racing in 2002, just after winning the points championship trophy and telling everyone to watch out as the guy with the Blaster will be champion from then on.....and he was.

I could definitley see this sled on the market in the next few months.

Would I want one for me? ... Probably not. But I would certainly entertain the idea for my upcoming youngster!!!

That's pretty cool NOS. I'm a lil behind you but rowing the same boat passion wize.
I sold 4- 85 250R's to buy my 1st YFZ450 in 04. Placed on the poduim for all my season's finallies until 2010. Sat on the TOP. Finally. Stock motor w/slip on only. Suspension transfered off my 04 in 07 when I bought my SE. Only change in 2010 was getting sponsored by ELKA and upgrading. Had to upgrade as I had shock play in the bushing and bent one to an unrepairable state landing when the bolt sheared. 4th gear, preloaded for a 60'er, bolt broke, saw my life flash, panic rev, landed to the worst crash i've ever had.
Probably banshees and 250R's up against that 200cc Blaster. Kinda the way, for a lack of better words, Phazer against the main stream.
Maybe the guy in the blaster had different powerplant in there. Kinda like what your forseeing in the near future from Yamaha........
I wanna know what you know  And for you to say the next few months.....got me wondering If I shoulda waited one more season to buy new :sled1:

Another couple weeks and I'm sure we will all know.
You have me wondering now tho....

Have now also heard this from another person that there may be what is called the "3000" Arctic Cat, phazer engine in a pro-cross chassis. This was talked about this weekend between a few people.

Ohhhh dear lol. I love the concept, but not sure if I'd buy into first year. I'm actually anxious to see what there coming out with. Probably only because I blew my kitty on another phazer and may have possibly waited for something else "different".
I rode with a friend the other day with a 500 cat. He told me it weighed in at 400lbs. Now put a thumper in there and I'm sure it would still be lighter that the current phazer at 550ish.
