Hi Dustin, what year winder, and what model? Was this apex clutch bought off e-bay or amazon used? And did you just install winder ramps and spring, and than install on winder shaft and go? Or did you modify this clutch in anyway before install?Apex primary is working better for me as well. I have 700 miles on my belt and it still looks good. 500 miles was all I could get before I switched.

Mike if you were to go on e-bay and look for a primary replacement clutch, would it be apex first choice or rx-1 and why? Oh ya,cant we just install the old apex clutch, change to winder weights, and go sledding! Can the same be said for the rx-1 primary!
Pete,
Ether clutch, doesn't make a bit of difference as they are the same, other than roller size for the year perhaps. Throw the weights in it and go. I used my DTYA-1 and lightened them up to 73G base weight so I had some adjustability on the XS825 belt.
One thing I noticed is the RX-1 clutch sat out about 1.25-1.5 MM further, it allowed me to put my 1.5MM circlip back on behind the secondary and keep alignment in check with the Hurricane bar.

After an initial learning curve on where to set this belt, ( had some SD-08 code) , I am at just over 1,000 miles. Just came back from Quebec. 400 miles half of it at -18 or lower. Ran hard the last day on TQ 83 into 345 and belt looks good, clutches/rollers fine. So far very happy with this belt.

Everything Knapp just said is spot on what I found with the primary sticking out 1.5mm father.
I do believe the plastic washers on the sides of the weight and/or rollers on the apex primary are thinner than the winder primary. Everything else was a direct swap. I did take 3 grams of weight out of the tip of my stm weights but I that might be because of the xs825 belt.
I have a 2017 btx. 250hp tune
I bought the clutch at a local salvage shop near my house in northern mn. So I was able to inspect before I bought it.

Just got back from Quebec also. We stayed in Lac Blanc. Ran East to Shawinigan the first day. Endless high speed open farmlands . South to Joliett the second day and West to St. Zenon the third day for 520 miles. Powertrail with XS 825 and stock weights ran flawless and got great mileage. Over 1000 miles on the XS belt now and it looks perfect. Almost no dust. All I want is a little more backshift in the 30-60 mph area. After an initial learning curve on where to set this belt, ( had some SD-08 code) , I am at just over 1,000 miles. Thanks, with the info contributed on this site by yourself and others you have sure saved alot of people some serious head scratching!I'm using the stock 15mm rollers on the stock 2003 RX-1 clutch I had sitting on the shelf. The RX clutch had 1000 miles on it stock and has about another 1000 on it in my winder. Rollers look new and I honestly don't even worry about them or check them much anymore.
Just a couple hundred miles on my winder primary this season and it already has the 14.8MM Thunder products rollers severely worn and looking real bad. The Winder primary ate more dollars in belts and rollers than the sled did in fuel the last three years! Glad this belt and roller stuff is now in the rearview mirror. The sled is finally where it should be, running consistently, fast and hopefully reliable. Took three years and lots of frustration to get it there!

I just wrapped my stock secondary spring to 50 degrees and added a new XS825 belt. I'm not sure if I've done something wrong or what, but the sled coasts way easier than it did before. 0 engine braking coming into corners. It also felt like the secondary was sticking a bit down low. I adjusted my deflection because the sled was creeping forward at idle. It clunks going into reverse now. Maybe I need to adjust deflection even more? The belt is sitting flush with the top of the secondary.
I only rode it a couple miles. Maybe I need to give the belt some time to break in?
If the coasting is due to the 50 degree wrap, what can I do to fix it?

50 degree wrap? That's not much for spring pressure.
My stock setup was 35 helix, yellow secondary on a 60* wrap and it wasn't real good at getting the belt to the top when stopping. Any more than 60* and you get into coil bind at full shift.

I have the stock 35, and stock spring. I figured maybe less wrap with the sticky XS belt?
I also have a Dalton black orange that I could try as well.
It will be getting flashed soon. I'm not sure where I should have it set with the XS belt and more power.

I'm running the B/O at 90* to 95* wrap flashed for the most part. You'll want about 80* on a stocker I'd suspect.

Where would the B/O need to be set on a 250hp tune?

I'd be at 90 myself.
