Yeah your right we don't have much of a groom trail system in my area, lots of trails though with beautiful scenery, a longer track really helps getting around on our trails for sure, 100-110hp in a new light weight Yamaha built chassis... It might be just wishful thinking.Ya, you guys have less of a trail system and more snow on the east coast, you guys need the long tracks. On groomed trails and hardpack, the 129 actually hooks up better than the 137 because it actually transfers.
The should make a 100-110 hp sled, but i dont see it. Unless Yamaha uses the Cat 600 motor and rebadges it into a yamaha.

You must have gotten one the good ones, built on a Thursday probably, good for you, Polaris 800, ski-doo 850, Catron 800 2 strokes are all disposable engines but they are trying, lucky for you that Yamaha is turning your track.pffff polaris cant build a 800 engine that lasts....ski doos 800 was no better...my cousin on his second 800 etec engine with half the mileage my sled has and now he has constant injector issues. I dont agree with the "lots" of chaincase issues, most of those so called issues are neglect or inproper tension...6000miles and mine looks brand new inside and i ride pretty hard. 4 of us have procross sleds with lots of miles..none of us have chassis flex issues or chaincase issues. Lets not act like ski doo and polaris dont have issues....all i hear is issues with the 850 etec...fires, belts and even engine failures.

Like i said i have 4 buddies with 14 cats...one with a 600 ctec 2 and its just as reliable as my 1049 and actually gets better fuel mileage....i guess all 5 of us got lucky and bought Thursday built sleds some how i suppose. You must have gotten one the good ones, built on a Thursday probably, good for you, Polaris 800, ski-doo 850, Catron 800 2 strokes are all disposable engines but they are trying, lucky for you that Yamaha is turning your track.
The suzuki built 800 in the older cats is known to be the most reliable of any of the 800s built recently...the new 800 ctec 2 is anything like their 600 it will be even better then the suzuki and last many many miles

The 2 strokes today seem to go a bit further run a lot better with all the new tech being developed and put in to there engines, but you as a buyer are paying dearly for it, call me old school but if you and your buddies 2 stroke cats had 10000 miles on them and I had to pick one sled out of the bunch to go on a weeks away snowmobile trip it would be your zr 7000 hands down.Like i said i have 4 buddies with 14 cats...one with a 600 ctec 2 and its just as reliable as my 1049 and actually gets better fuel mileage....i guess all 5 of us got lucky and bought Thursday built sleds some how i suppose.

im not saying id give up the 1049 for a 2 stroke, im long done with 2 stroke..the tq and response of 4 stroke is what i like..i also hate the smell these new 2 strokes emit veery harsh chemical smell over the old school sleds. If i had to 2 stroke it would be a cat ctec2 i feel the others cant last as longThe 2 strokes today seem to go a bit further run a lot better with all the new tech being developed and put in to there engines, but you as a buyer are paying dearly for it, call me old school but if you and your buddies 2 stroke cats had 10000 miles on them and I had to pick one sled out of the bunch to go on a weeks away snowmobile trip it would be your zr 7000 hands down.

I agree a less expensive 100 HPish sled is missing from the big-Y, but it's a tough class to be in with a 4-stroke. For the same weight they offer 135HP. They would need a new 2 cylinder plant. Rumor was Yamaha had 5 new motors a couple years ago that they would be putting to market. I believe Textron is getting serious in the 4-wheeler market. I just saw them advertise on a hunting channel. They are using Yamaha plants in their high end side by sides & if Yamaha can make motors for multiple platforms, then they know they can sell enough to offset costs & make MONEY.
"What is Yamaha's next step" is the original thread. This is my new opinion:
1. They build motors for their own 4-wheelers & Textron's while the market is HOT
2. As long as the 4-wheeler market stays hot, the sled deal stays even if both sides just break even
----again they NEED to keep people BRAND LOYAL
----don't forget BRP is a major competitor to Yamaha boat motors
3. If Yamaha makes let's say $1000 on a motor to AC or Textron & they make a $1000 to sell their own sled; what's the difference? $1000=$1000
4. When the 4-wheeler market starts to slow the deal will be OFF
5. IF; biggest word in dictionary; Yamaha doesn't get ready for this demise, then they will be out of sled biz
HOPEFULLY, Yamaha still makes what little they have to stay in market to be relevant & as the deal starts to sour, they put out their own sleds.
They need R&D now for future!
I think they will ride this same deal out for now

The new 2-smokes smell like when you throw a plastic red beer cup into the bon-fire at a keg party & everyone yells at you because they are getting sick....but it's ok when you pay $50 a gallon & it's "safe" for the environment

I feel Yamaha needs really start to push the tech. To me, it seems like other brands keep pushing the technology limit. Polairs keep getting lighter, ski-doo is trying to push the 850. What has Yamaha done in the last 5 yrs? 1 new motor! I understand it takes years to design and develop the motors but come on. I want to see more in advances then that. They could also be working on all the little things but I feel they aren't. I get that Polairs have crap engines and ski-doo have weak #*$&@ bulk heads but why are they on top of the sled market? Think about that for minute. Why do most people keep buying those sleds? That's the question Yamaha and AC/Textron need to be asking themselves.

I think there are too many people that buy the other sleds... especially Doo... because they can't think for themselves enough to see value in something different/better AND everyone they know has one of those [insert other non-Yamaha brand].

I was talking to my dealer today and we talked about what direction Yamaha is going with new sled development, he told me that Yamaha is going to be releasing a all new Yamaha built light weight chassis and new motor, the last couple of years they are doing a lot of testing with Turbo's for new engine platforms which we have seen and were offered in the Viper platform and now in the Sidewinder factory built engine, it takes about 4-5 years for testing and development to release a new engine and model platform, this new Yamaha model is built and being tested as we speak, its just a question of when it will be released, remember what Yamaha said - you haven't seen nothing yet !!!! we will see.

Soooooooo, you're saying' there's a chance. YES!
I think you guys may have heard this. But my Dealer,Former boss and riding buddy is a big Cat fan. Sells both Yamaha and Cat I told him someday when Yamaha buys Cat the Rep is going to walk in with a can of Blue paint and tell him to start painting the store! Still hope for that even. Man I would like that!
