My honest belief is Textron wants nothing to do with sleds...here is my thought...They bought cat because they want to get into the SxS... Gas market and changed the name...but they want to leave the sleds as ARCTIC CAT...because if the sell it you gotta go threw all the BS to get a name for a company...just my 2 cents...I bet they want to and probably already have sold the Arctic Cat side to Yamaha...heard they are already moving ATV and SxS manufacturing to there other company sites(much warmer locations...lol)....Yamaha moved headquarters to Canada...for sleds...Yamaha buys the sled side from Textron for say 600 million and gets the assembly line in Thief River, and gets the Cat name.....they can change everything no cross over models, improve cat quality and adjust frame shapes for motors from japan...they Keep Cat 2 stroke and Yamaha 4 stroke...just my belief...

I created a believer!
This makes the most sence. While at Yamaha outboard service school, they have no word about snowmobile division. Not even a hint. Aka. Tight lipped

No kidding at all. This is the way business is performed. Stock holders do not get to decide day to day operations. Even if it entails buying a complete division. Example, Brunswick just sold off the Sea Ray division, me being a stock holder in Brunswick, I did not know of this until it was near the completion of the deal, when it went public. Stockholders put their trust in the officers we elect to run the company. And neither company informs stockholers...LOL....you GOT to be kidding.

Not a chance Yamaha purchased AC and did not announce it absolutely zero chance this already happened. LolNo kidding at all. This is the way business is performed. True enough but that is leading up to and sometimes even including the purchase, once the deal is done its announced there is little to gain after that by keeping it secret. No kidding at all. If Cat was sold to Yamaha we would know by now I would think. As I have said its has its up sides with a production line in the US along with Cats tech and engineers add the purchase in Canada and Yamaha is in a position to increase market share. Interesting is a patent for a jacksahft mounted supercharger. You could take the 998 turbo engine and make say 110 hp NA then raise that to 140 150 with 3 to 4 pds boost. You could run the current Apex engine at 170 180 with 3 to 4 pounds boost by going back to the earlier gear reduction of the RX line or even less and dropping revs back to 10,200 that made 140hp and I'd buy it in a heart beat even if it was a Catamaha! Id be interested in an Apex powered Cat chassis design with the motor down low in the chassis and pipes out the back like they should be with a jackshaft supercharger that is more then possible!
A jack-shaft driven supercharger would ramp up and give you top end power while at trail cruising speeds be docile and fuel efficient! It would be a very linear progression of power that would be easier on belts and fuel!

I think what could happen is Textron divides Arctic Cats products. A snow division and vehicle division. I say this as a thought because Textron and Yamaha are in direct competition in the golf cart small utility market. As a Golf Course Superintendent I deal with Textron and Yamaha a lot. We just completed a deal with Yamaha for a new fleet of golf carts. Textron couldn’t even come close to touch it nor I don’t think they wanted to. I think if Arctic Cat isn’t sold Yamaha won’t be a player. There’s three manufacturers and for Yamaha to be a big player like the other 3 in the snowmobile market they need the Arctic Cat name/products. Without that they aren’t selling enough of the market share. Textron wanted Arctic Cat for the side by side market and technology. It’s all speculation but from what I see with my dealings with the two it could easily happen. Just my opinion not that it matters.

I just believe Textron was in the sled biz when it was pretty good( they owned Polaris for a while in the 80's) I think they just wanted the Side by Side with gas motors to offset their electric SxS lineup that is huge in the U.S for them ( Bad boy was on every hunting show on the outdoor channel,Hell Polaris started making some to get some of that share) ...and expand their off-road market. If....If, they were to sell the Cat side to Yamaha...they could still use Yamaha(St. Cloud division) other then Kymco as a motor supplier and not have to deal with that end.

Lots of speculation but no different than any other year. In a few weeks at least we'll know what's in store for 2019. The long term is anyone's guess. Yamaha snowmobile division did move to new locale in Canada. What that means remains to be seen. The winters have not helped any of the mfg's and has effected the cost of these limited use machines.

I wouldn't begrudge Yamaha if they pulled the plug on their sled division. The past winter's we've had, especially here on the east coast, why should they bother with sleds. Take that R&D money and invest it in other products across the company. I live 20 minutes northwest of Allentown PA. and are winters have been nonexistent. My dealer who sold the full Yamaha line since 1972 gave up sleds in 2015. Demographic of sledders getting older, the younger generation doesn't have the income or desire for snowmobileing. I don't have much hope for Yamaha snowmobiles and snowmobileing in general in the years to come.

Only one possible buyer for AC and that would be Yamaha on a very limited bases....BUT.. Yamaha has access to everything they want via OEM Agreement. Up to Textron what happens next and prolly other SW , Viper and Snow Scoot agreements in place as well. AC would have to be dirt cheap for Yamaha to purchase TRF and I'm sure Yamaha will never put their name on any AC 2s engines so that part would be orphaned. Be careful what you wish for..lolI live just outside Detroit Lakes Minnesota, little town of Frazee MN, about 2 miles from a company named Fett Brothers Racing.
