Yamaha Cutting Production for 2019

Well i used to work for a company that made parts for them and had to go there(trf)for quality issues and yes that is the type of people that work there

As for the 2 in state mfg's, Polaris does have more of a high tech manufacturing process. In the past I always felt Cat had the worst record for quality and finish. I do feel since Yamaha has been in there that they have improved quite a bit. Still not on par with a made in Japan Yamaha or a Ski-Doo as far as a finished product goes.

The working together agreement with Arctic Cat is expired with the 2018 snowmobiles and would not be extended.
What comes out of the box????

I did hear that Yamaha bought the rights to the chassis. But there's a lot more to consider. I wonder about the 1049 that was supposed to go into the AC SXS.

Knowing they have no 4 stroke snowmobiles but realize that Polaris is huge in the ATV, SXS market. Those are all 4 strokes up 1000 cc. I realize that they are mostly V twins or single cylinders but that means they are committed to the 4 Stroke. They therefore would have the expertise to build quality engines that could be put into sleds if they wanted.

Sneak peak video coming from Yamaha around Feb. 22nd. That's all I know.

This is what I think might happen. I believe that Yamaha will release a lower horsepower 4 stroke. I think in the 40 to 50 hp range. It will also be a simplier design entry level type sled, done in some type of partnership with cat. Again to promote the new and younger crowd to get into riding. I also believe that maybe for 2019, if not, 2020, they will release a Apex replacement. There will be a big hole there in that hp range with nothing to fill it after the Apex is gone. I also believe that replacement will be all Yamaha and be built in Georgia with the engines built in Japan! I just can't see that awesome sounding 4 cylinder that is under a 1000cc going by the way side! This is what I believe will happen if Yamaha continues to build sleds!

Is the Apex 998 used anywhere else in a Yamaha product line today?

Yea.. we have a 2010 Vector LTX..nothing like my 07 Attak... no way..

Yes it’s from the R1 super sport motorcycle..
That engine will never discontinue..
In additon to what Steve OCD stated, the R1 no longer uses the 20 valve head. It's 16 valve now.

If you guys have never heard the 4 cyl cross-plane engine, search it on Youtube. It's almost as good as porn.

Ok, did some research. Seems the crossplane has a unique firing order which creates a pause in torque allowing the tires to maintain or regain traction during acceleration on the R1 bike. If the Genesis has a different crank shaft (someone who knows please chime in) then there would be a possible benefit to updating the sled engine the same way, especially since traction is so key to sled performance. Make a couple tweaks to the delta box and throw this engine in and you have a lot of happy TY'rs!

We've been chatting on TY about that CROSSPLANE motor since they came out with it.
A bunch of us thought it would have been great in a sled, but there were all kinds of speculations that it wouldn't work technically.
It has more low end torque & put out almost 40 hp more.

Can't recall but wasn't some of the talk revolving around the rpm the CP makes it's power at and if it was even possible to gear reduce it for the clutches?
