For 22,000 miles when I hear my 7000 throttle up I know it has the heart of a Yamaha. That engine defines the machine. Initial quality, another important attribute, was up to Yamaha standard. Longevity maybe not so much but good enough for most people. Yamaha lives on in another chassis.I see what your saying and understand, but do you think that somebody riding a Cat 7000 hears his engine throttle up thinks he's on a Yamaha? i'm hoping Peter Smallman from Yamaha is just not feeding his sled customers a line, I hope he stay's true to his word about Yamaha's commitment to new sled development and stuns the sled industry soon!!!

Do you think Cat and Doo and Poo will get that many miles out of their new 800, 850, 800 so called cutting edge t stroke's? their customers are paying big money for a 2 stroke now, Doo is claiming it can with its new 850.For 22,000 miles when I hear my 7000 throttle up I know it has the heart of a Yamaha. I think Cat and Doo will will get that many miles (22,000) on their new 2-strokes. Doo improved longevity with many expensive machining operations. Cat improved longevity with smart design. In some ways a 2-stroke is appropriate for a snowmobile but I love the sound of 4-stroke. A engine in close proximity to the driver should strum the heart strings. The 7000/Viper does that for me and nothing sounds better than the R1 motor.Do you think Cat and Doo and Poo will get that many miles out of their new 800, 850, 800 so called cutting edge t stroke's? their customers are paying big money for a 2 stroke now, Doo is claiming it can with its new 850.

I agree on the sound of the R1 motor and its reliability, but on the fence about Cats new 800 and Doo's 850 for their livability, and Poo's 800 well... I would feel a lot more comfortable buying a Yamaha four stroke with 10,000 miles on it than I would buying a Doo's 850 or a Cats new 800 2 stroke with that many miles.I think Cat and Doo will will get that many miles (22,000) on their new 2-strokes. 2009 Phazer MTX
I think it’s almost a given that the Wolverine X4 engine finds its way into a sled. That engine screams entry trail/rental sled special, could be the Phazer replacement and shouldn’t be hard to get 85-90hp out of it. How quick it shows up is anyone’s guess, might happen quicker if Cat wants a replacement for the 1100na for the 5000. I think it’s still a few years before a new chassis pops up though, either pure Yamaha or Procross 2.0. I think most of the Cats and Viper will move to the new/Winder plastics for 2019 and that’s about it and milk that for a few years. Here is my take on the future of Yamaha. HOPEFULLY in 2019 I think Yamaha will come out with a new chassis & a 850 4-stroke.

OK, I do know Yamaha has an all new sled of some sort coming out of Japan. What it is..........anyone's guess. Will it come for 2019? Not sure........
I do agree they could use a machine to replace the current Phazer, maybe right around 100HP.

While Doo could get longivity out of the 2 stroke it can't do it without full rebuilds. Ball/roller bearing will not last as long as Babbitt pressure fed bearings. Its the one main reason I went over to Yamaha from Cat. About 10,000 miles the big triples which had the best bottom ends of the Cats at that time, lost the bearings. Doo now claims 300 hours or about the same or less miles. I agree on the four banger, it has the sweetest sound of any engine on the snow. I'm not a fan of the triple however reminds me to much of my Massey three hole tractor! No 4 cylinder means I stick with what I got for as long as I can!

Uh, no. Never. Not knocking them, but 2 strokes would be in all cars by now if they actually were more reliable, more fuel efficient, etc as they have several advantages...fewer moving parts, light weight, overall simplicity. When weight isn't a primary necessity, 4 strokes rule.Do you think Cat and Doo and Poo will get that many miles out of their new 800, 850, 800 so called cutting edge t stroke's? their customers are paying big money for a 2 stroke now, Doo is claiming it can with its new 850.
However, my pro McCulloch chain saw 2 strokes from 40 to 48 years run like a bear with ancient tech....even points in 710A!
