haha, we still do that! After a drag race you always hear from the guys you beat "I was catching you big time"
Unorganized racing is the very best. While, with all racing, the first 200' can be make it or break it.
Nothing official about who left first, and as stated many times, "a chase is a race" if someone leaves way too soon, just sit and wait till he comes back. He'll know.
Most of the time the starts are pretty clean. Distance is always subjective.
If you leave hard on the others lining up. They generally will stay into it until they decide they've had enough.
There's just so many throttle jockeys (including myself) that gather in a particular riding area. Basically there's a few lakes you can spill off to, where they're sitting and waiting for you. Riders will lie about work done. It's pretty fun! Lol.
No speed limits all day long. And there's zero hard feelings.
It's all in good fun.

Yeah fun stuff. The 2 guys with worked up VR1 Boosts I shut down late last season bought me a really good prime rib dinner and lots of drinks. They said they weren't even in the draft I left them so bad. They were good guys and said thanks for shutting them down to keep their feet on the ground. Fun stuff. It's all good for the sport.haha, we still do that!

That's usually where you pass or get passed some good tidbits to/for help.
Never met sore losers. Everyone snowmobiles to have fun. Truth...

I ran 116mph in 1000 ft a few years back at St. Germain radar run. Evolution stage 4 tune, whatever hp that happens to be.Typically, what are you guys seeing in mph on dragy for 1,000 on snow, with say 275hp and decent traction.
I know the variables, so I used the word "typically".
Just looking at what I can expect, and goals to shoot for.
I know I'll get a wide variety of answers, so please explain, if you like.

120 in 1000 feet is very fast IMO.. ON SNOW.. Not many trail sleds running this on pump. Not saying none but very few.

Jon, it just takes some time to decipher reality. I was very specific, but you know how that goes. People get excited and post their speedo runs, ice runs, etc.120 in 1000 feet is very fast IMO.. ON SNOW.. Not many trail sleds running this on pump. Not saying none but very few.
Once you gather all the information you can then come to a conclusion on what's what.
I'd say 115mph+/- is pretty stout. Meaning everything is working as it should.
Thanks Jon

For sure.. bare ice, hard pack(road), and snow.. ALL are a big variable. And pump gas vs race.. Some forget to leave out details..Jon, it just takes some time to decipher reality. I was very specific, but you know how that goes. People get excited and post their speedo runs, ice runs, etc.

Yeah I get a good chuckle when guys brag about their speed when referencing the speedometer. I remember breaking in my Attak back in 06' on shear ice after studding. The speedo was reading 132mph! It was probly more like 105! It's such a harsh reality check once you have a good performance meter you're looking at after an "epic" run!

I look at the dragy as a tuning devise.
1) you need to know what others have accomplished to help set goals.
2) once goals are established you can make runs with some idea of what the sled is capable of, and make changes to help reach them.
If I listened to FB I would have really enjoyed my worst season ever. Lol. Cuz they all go 125+ in 1,000ft.
My stomach would have been in knots trying to figure out what was wrong.

Here is one of the very first runs i made. on snow, not great but a GOOD track, 1.5 lug , very easy start with a garbage muffler ggb, have since went to a td 3inch stock mod and better clutching but have not ran it since making the changes, had to add 2 grams to bring rpm back in check when i switched mufflers. MS17, running MS17 Lean this winter.

Solid for a 1.5" track. You'll be north of those numbers this year. No disrespect, I'm very happy with TD. Just the whole Max17 pump, MS17L & MS17 have left me a touch confused.
I'll get thru it.

From what I have read and ppl I have talked to MS17 lean with the big pump is the strongest of the 3. Max17 280 ms17 285 comes on stronger down low and spools quicker ms17 lean big pump is 290. All just # have not seen dyno sheet to confirm.Solid for a 1.5" track. You'll be north of those numbers this year.

I have the five 3bar maps loaded in my sled. Two of which areFrom what I have read and ppl I have talked to MS17 lean with the big pump is the strongest of the 3. Max17 @ 280
MS17 @ 290
I'm assuming both are made for pump fuel & stock fuel pump. Probably a slash of boostane.
I also have Max20, which I assume ill need a pump for?
