If you hesitate between BOP crossshaft upgrade and RR parts from CAT ..
GO BOP steel shaft... I just snap my RR aluminum crossshaft
Thanks god i had installed the BOP front tunnel saver plate over the summer...
I am almost positive that these plates have saved the tunnel from FULL tear
You can see on the pictures that the PTO side is always gona be more fragile. Less brace support inside.... ;-/

I agree. Been too many of both stock and rr shaft broken. Now there is a better option I hope.

Good thing the plates saved your tunnel from a tear out.

I am sure BOP shaft is a good upgrade... But i don’t have time for shipping! My friend is making one now out of steel 4140HT. 0,84 full length, and McMaster strong bolt 70mm #95735A671 . Should be overkill Back on the trails tomorrow morningI agree. Been too many of both stock and rr shaft broken. Now there is a better option I hope.

So my cross shaft broke and tore the tunnel about 1" at the bolt, both sides of the tunnel are bent. So one dealer says I should make a insurance claim, another dealer says most likely not covered on insurance but then says they did do a tunnel replacement on insurance claim last year? Both say its 40-60 hours labor & parts for a dealer to do it. I ordered BOP parts to fix hopefully. So my question is has anyone tried a insurance claim for this problem? There is sign that I hit a something and it put a deep scratch in the tunnel directly at the cross shaft. Don't want to go a 2 months without the sled, don't like the idea of a tunnel replacement these thing have enough problems, but if I install the BOP parts how might that effect a claim?

15 200km on that shaft. Regular bump nothing crazy...What were the circumstances that broke the last one (rough trails, hard landing, mileage, etc?)
It was simply due, the design of the rr shaft is breakable.

Newbie Q - can I install the BOP cross shaft saver while the sled is in the air on a sled lift, or should the skid be removed? Any process for install? Track going to be problem? I can wait till next summer (skid/track removed) but if its an easy upgrade now while the sled is new, never-seize bolts, etc, etc.
Thanks

Sab2020: Cross shaft holds front of suspension swing arm in place with the 2 x U-shaped brackets, so the suspension doesn't necessarily need to be completely removed to get the shaft out, just dropped down and back after removing torsion spring tension and rear suspension mounts, (not sure if XTX is different than LTX in this) but best if working on a sled stand. Would do the upgrade now while everything is new. Use some grease on the stock aluminum shaft when installing the BOP kit, they are a very close fit.
I have found a way to remove the skid annually without removing this cross shaft, so once installed I never remove it. Don't think loctite or anti-seize is required but to each his own.
Also, I elected to modify (shorten) the large OEM spacer caps down to 5mm high as opposed to trying to slip the two washers on each end of the shaft that comes with the BOP kit. The OEM end caps have the larger flange (31mm dia) that I believe supports the shaft to the tunnel better and is less likely to distort the tunnel if something dramatic happens. I cut the end caps/spacers down even with the depth of the inside pocket, which is where the end of the shaft clamps up to when assembled.
Cheers

Hurricane has a heavy duty one made out of 7075 aluminum. Don't think youll break it .
Also do yourself a favour and get rid of the stock centre spring it's made for riders that weigh 150 lbs fully suited up. Lol

do you need to drop the skid to swap the shaft out? Is there any video or instructions?

I did it with the skid in, even by raising the rear of the sled off the ground there’s a little tension on the front shaft so you will need to remove the front shock top bolt and swing the shock towards the rear of the suspension, pretty straightforward after that.do you need to drop the skid to swap the shaft out? Thanks Much.. I can't get'r back in and I really don't feel like dropping the skidI did it with the skid in, even by raising the rear of the sled off the ground there’s a little tension on the front shaft so you will need to remove the front shock top bolt and swing the shock towards the rear of the suspension, pretty straightforward after that.
