Beware of muffler falling apart

I went through almost $ 2,000 worth of exhaust donuts, y pipes and a muffler on my Apex. I am not too worried, they will come up with a fix.

Oh the muffler is falling off of my truck. Time for a new one

Yup sell it and move on to the next brand. Grass is greener over there. Then when you have issues over there move on to another brand. It's a vicious circle. Nobody makes a flawless sled.

I think my Polaris friend would trade issues with you as he went through 3 new engines (not rebuilt) last year :-o

Question for those that had this issue, have you ever heard your sled backfire and if so how often? Ever a backfire after a long starting attempt?

Bear in mind these are lightweight mufflers (which I prefer) not the old 40lb Mountain Max ones.

I can see your frustration with this, went through it with my 03 Rev when I had it. Nothing worse than looking out the window and seeing snow and not being able to ride because of lack of parts and having a manufacturer not stand behind their stuff. If I were in your shoes I would order a aftermarket quiet can and be done with it. Mine is holding together so far.

Don't know about backfiring all the time, but a slight pop here and then when I would back off. But the day mine went it backfired and was very noticeable.

I think you saw my point though, a backfire every once in a while can put a great deal of stress on a muffler. And if its full of gasoline from a failed start and pops it can rupture a muffler. Or maybe these are just junk.....lol.

backfire

I came up to a intersection and just started to go and I got a pop noise or backfire and it sounded funny. I crossed the road and noticed a red flashing light blinked twice that I noticed and turn key off. I restarted it and it ran great the rest of trip 125 miles at 27 degrees temp out. I wonder if I need to look at my exhaust a little closer?

Just checked mine out and the heat shield is very loose , so I guess I will take it in and get a new one , the muffler on my truck is bad too , man ! they just don't make them like they use to !

everyone has to realize its an arctic cat and their tolerance for poor fit and finish and reliability is pretty high. as long as its gets you back to the truck, then its a good day. the AC sleds in our group had a horrible year with issues. a wife of a buddy of mine that had a new 2013 sled that she was riding will not be going back up north on an AC next year. she was pissed.

09nytro, I"ll bet the muffler on your truck is more then 3 months old.
Haha , it's like 5 year old , but hey this is the first thing that's happened to my sled and it's still not blown apart so I'm not mad at all !

I think the fit and finish is really good on the viper myself but that's just me ,

just an example.....they put this sled together with sheet metal screws and left the tips exposed. nothing like slicing your hand open! when i picked up the sled, the yamaha mechanic said be carefuel cause this sucker will cut you. well he was right! yeah, thats good fit and finsih lol.
