Cat DNA Strikes again! -CHAINCASE TENSIONER ROLLER WHEEL FAIL

I have 950 miles on my 18. This weekend will be my last ride. I'll be checking mine in the fall!

My dad has over 6,000 miles on his 2017 LTX. He has never checked the top gear or tensioner!
One of my riding buds that posts over on Facebook Yamaha site has a 17 with thousands of miles, and the CC has never had an issue. But now he is paranoid since I showed him this pic haha.

I wonder what Loctite would have to say? I know of guys who used red loctite but over miles, screws backed off some. Does the oil eventually degrade the holding power of red loctite? Don't know for sure without scientific testing but I know tack welding them does make SURE they won't come loose.

Dan might be on to something with vibration. There is the backside of the chain running against this roller(metal on metal) ten's of thousands of times and the backside of chain appears smooth but is it?

I think the tensioners on the sidewinders are made in a different plant than the cats. Same place as the failing turbos lol

Agree. With lots of HP and traction, there's tremendous load in chain case for sure. Track drive shaft is very big but the jackshaft is, as you say, about an inch. I've wondered more than once during a hard launch, if it will someday explode and break in the snap ring groove?! Hope not 'cuz it will probably wreck allot of stuff.

I changed one on a 2012 800, although that shaft was only about 7/8 if I remember correctly. It broke right beside the bearing.

IMO its the massive VIBES over a long period....its a SCHITT design really. No need to roller, should be like BRP uses.

1100 turbo procross didnt have a roller issue. My new tensioner just came in. At 10000k im gonna replace it and will spotweld the fasteners just to be part of the gang. Yamy must have had influence on this piece if its failing. Haaa Lol

It just seems so random on this failure. Not saying it’s not a issue to watch or check. 7200 miles and mine has been fine. I checked it at 6 k and no issue at all. I did pull it apart and red locker. Checked again at 7200 still no loosening or backing out on the screws. Does it matter what chaincase fluid is in case? Can imagine why that would matter?

John pull it out and I’ll weld it for you, no sense in taking a chance. I can pick it up when we go walleye fishing this spring.

Procross didn’t have a roller, it was a wear block. It also had an automatic tensioner.
