Do you guys think Yamaha/Cat have the chaincase issues solved for 2020? Would love to get a new Winder GT but bit scared of the dreaded tow home from that issue or tunnel coolant hose fracture.

I was fortunate, discovered the axle bearing bad on the chaincase side during a track swap at 6,250 miles. Dealer replaced the axle, all associated bearings, chain tensioner, brake rotor under warranty. So was not stranded, all taken care of.

I have 3600 on mine, buddy has 5800 on his and other buddy is at 7,000. Haven't had any issues.

They have done very little since 2012, why would 2020 be any different?

If you follow this site, you can make a few mods to get these as reliable as possible. If you want a big power sled the 998 is the ONLY choice out there, and why many of us put up with the crap engineering of the Procross.

Axle bearing on chaincase side? That is more rare since that bearing is open and lubed from case. Was it bad due to metal shavings in it or did it spin on shaft?

Good reason to open these cases up seasonally AT MINIMUM. This will go a long way to keeping them clean, checking top gear bushing, shift fork pucks, and chain tensioner roller screws(should be tack welded IMO) and chain tension.

Cat is not worried about changes and updates unless they are part of a complete chassis changeover. The way I see it Cat has always been somewhat radical when they brought along changes. Not a whole lot of testing, just put it out to the consumer first. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn’t.
BRP and POO seem to be quite a bit more tame in that regard. Never change the whole line-up at once, bunch of testing. But the changes all seem almost mellow (except when they released the REV). But to BRPs credit, changes are almost always improvements, that are wanted/needed by riders.

If I’m honest, I hope Cat keeps the same trail handling pedigree in the next one. I also hope they swallow their pride and go back to a diamond drive. That thing was by far a better design than any chaincase (except for POO’s belt, but no reverse on that), as long as you had quality parts and serviced it properly.

I also hope, someone at Yamaha wakes up and they at lease create a new fully Yamaha sled in the near future. ( I doubt, but we can wish right)

My reverse actuator took a #*$&@ last night. Another Benjamin. 2nd one. They last me about 5000mi.
Thats weird. I have 10k on one and 5k on another and never had a problem. My buddy has 7k on his without issue.

I have 5400 miles on my 17 winder, lower drive shaft brake side inner race bearing chewed drive shaft .060. #*$&@ design. Also pull the top gear with no oil holes and it was about 006 bigger then a new one. Not a lot of slop but enough. Checked the chain tensioner and I was shocked to see the screws still in place on the roller but still tacked them to be safe. Between the drive and the rollover valve and crappy oil tank seal I’m on the fence about getting another Yama Cat. They need to make some small fixes and the sled could be outstanding.

We have almost 2000 on my wife’s winder and her oil case case seal went and I am scarred to pull the drive shaft to see if that’s eaten away.

Its funny how some have problems and some dont. We have 4 in our group from 8000 miles down to a 19 SRX with 2000. I have had belt blowing issues, but think it is much better this year. While one guys he hasnt done a thing barely cleans his clutches and his runs perfect. So far other than blowing belts I havent really (knock on wood) had many of the other issues. They havent had any yet.
