I really have no desire to ride a 2 stroke sled again, but will likely order one to get a head start on the chassis with hopes that Yamaha gives us a 4 stroke option in that chassis. Even if 998 stays in procross maybe some catalyst upgrades will find their way to procross. Turbo motor is fantastic, but a nytro 135hp in this chassis would be perfect sled for me and a big seller in my opinion.
Still waiting on my Polaris 4 stroke to get built. My impressions of this sled will likely play a factor in what direction I take moving forward as well.

Do you guys remember the POLARIS STAR that had the secondary mounted directly to the Driveshaft?
I know it was only an old school 340, but with today's technology & knowledge, I'm surprised nobody has worked with this again.
It COMPLETELY eliminated the chain case.
Think of that weight savings.
It would be a PITA to clutch, but hey.................think about it

Thanks brother!Drive safe brother!
Terry,
Here's my question, as you've seen and ridden the catalyst chassis:.
Will the 998 turbo fit in that chassis?
If not, what are their plans with the 998 motor?
They are probably pretty tight-lipped on the latter, but take a few engineers out on the town for an evening and feed them whiskey........perhaps they'll sing?? A few of us on this forum will chip in and help pay the tab!!
I wish I could tell you that answer, but I can’t
@Thunder Products just to pick your brain for a bit
Can you give us some more insight on working with the engineers and some of the differences you have seen compared to the other three manufacturers?
Can you tell us what their testing environment consists of and how they benchmark and compare their product? There is probably no ASTM standard for performance on snowmobile trails.
Can you speak to how the engineers are operating post textron buyout? I know a bunch left when the buyout happened but can you speak as to how anything has changed?
Just curious if you know or if you don't that's fine and likely some of these questions are locked up in NDA.
Working with Cat has been awesome so far. The new chassis is more tubular frame than the Polaris and Skidoo and I really like this chassis.
As with big companies, people come and go. Textron still owns everything, but the AC name is here to stay. Other things I just can’t answer

I looked at the sled closely at the TO show - the guy wouldn't let me pull a panel off, but i doubt a 998 or 1049 is going to fit in that bulkhead. By the look of things it is very narrow, tight engine bay - similar to a polaris axys or matryx.
Best case scenario - they make a wide body to fit these engines similar to what ski doo did for the 900. I remain optimistic - but it wont happen until 2027-28 at least.......

Its not going to take that long to fit the 998, even if they have to widen it out. I bet they already have it in place ready for testing.

Heres the thing
If Yamaha and Cat continue on past 2024 why don't they just come out and say the 998 will be in it.
Both companies have been essentialy radio silent/no comment on the matter and that should tell us everything.

Well, the 998 is only in one model of Cats now so........
Maybe a V4 4st and a 2cylinder 900 4st for economy models. Those would fit.

with a rear facing exhaust , will be interesting how much of a bite they are going to take out of the gas tank. It’s already pretty small at 36 litres

See this engineers reaction to the 4S in the Catalyst question.
IF there remains a Yamaha-Cat relationship, scratch that, GIVEN that the Catalyst must have been developed during the window of time of cooperation between Yamaha and Cat it is a near certainty that the chassis has already had the 998T bolted in and plastics developed and considered. We can clearly see that Cat is using a CF reinforced plastic which coincidentally Yamaha owns a patent that is at least similar in scope and use of. Wether it will it ever be released, most of us can only guess (some likely already know). It is clearly also possible that there is a new motor in development and undoubtedly Cat will be releasing a turbo. It is simply extremely unlikely Cat can ignore the market for turbos given that all other mfgs are offering them. By the way the engineer also says that a larger than 800 motor will be in the chassis for 2025

The larger than 800 is the two stroke they are working on. Likely bigger than 850's. Cat also has a two stroke turbo patent

Cat has admitted to working on a bigger 800 motor. There are rumors that this new motor will be 860-880cc. If that's the case, it should make 180-190hp and in the catalyst chassis will weigh 50 pounds less than a 998t. It will ride/handle better than a 4s and smoke a stock winder in a race. The only guys left wanting a 4s are the ones who tune it, which cat probably isn't a fan of anyway. I think the 998t will disappear in 2026.

I have heard it right from the " horses mouth" that from a promanent after market turbo builder, is working hand and hand with cat on that " bigger" motor for catalst, all im gonna say...makes sense like fleecer says no more 998t, profits way higher with a 2 stroke.Cat has admitted to working on a bigger 800 motor.
