Early dyno reports (850R)

I honestly don't care what the other guys sleds have for mods and never have....if I get beat in a radar run or snow drag that is my problem not someone elses. Its up to me whether I am motivated enough to spend the money and do the work necessary to handle the other sleds out there.
LOL...my wallet has usually suffered:)

How fast do you want to go?...How much money do you have?

I like how they feel you can hold this thing wide open across a 10 mile lake multiple times in warm weather none the less
I gave that some consideration.... I was a little more concerned of when the aftermarket is going to start manufacturing a 2gal cell & what its going to look like. Lol.
Usage is at 180hp....image how fast you can drain that tank at 260hp?!?!

I'm not sure I understand this comment? One should never over extend themselves which would cause a feeling of regret.
I just build things for the adrenaline rush. And the feeling of some sense of accomplishment.

Little missing information from the Dyno run

This is actually not a 24’ with the meth injection, but a 23’

You can draw your own conclusions as to the reduction of octane needed for a tune as the math is introduced..

Tuners will surely be able to adjust the meth will bigger power tunes…

Just a Ypipe and pipe change yielded 20hp

This sled will be no joke once moderately tuned without race fuel

I agree. There may be a new sheriff in town.

I still think the 998 will be the fastest up top when tuned. I believe the G5/RMX combo requires a lot of HP to pull big top speed numbers. We will know a lot more in a few months.

Now let's remember they aren't as light as skidoo and their beloved followers think. A tuned well setup winder is still going to walk away from it IMO. By the time you add the turbo, meth reservoir and fluid they may weigh more than a winder.

Hmmm....that's a real eye opener. If we all just face the facts, we'd all come to the same conclusion.
2s/turbo = quick & unreliable
4s/turbo = fast & reliable
Yes, one can do the other, but there's always limitations.

It will be a joke, just like the Mach Z and Polaris boost.

Wait until Cat turbos their new 858 Catalyst...way lighter and prob similar power to the other two stroke 850s....should be interesting. If they do it which I think they will after the 998 is put out to pasture.

I'm not understanding why the most powerful snowmobile manufacturers (skidoo & Polaris) can't Perform the simple task of building a 4sTurbo motor to completely dominate the 7 year old 998 turbo?

It’s not so simple. Yamaha is arguably the best engine builder in the world. They could build and engine with equal power, but not even Yamaha themselves could build and engine that would completely dominate the 998 turbo. The 998 engine is 20+ year old tech already, not 7 years old.

I think you will see a four stroke twin from Cat in that chassis.
We asked an engineer about what four stroke they had in plan for the Catalyst. He just smiled when we suggested that it would be a twin.

Yep.... Cat wants to run stride for stride with polaris's 90hp twin.

They are not the best engine builder in the world. They build good engines, but there are plenty that can be ranked better.
Just look to road racing. It can easily be argued that they have been the lowest in HP for years and years in MotoGP and WSBK.
This year, they called in someone from Ferrari to assist with engine development.
I also remember when BMW introduced the 1000 sport bike. In their first swing, they topped all the Japanese manufacturers in HP by over 20 with 200.
There are many very formidable engine manufacturers globally.

I still have a hard time believing the ST weights. I have a SW and 900T sitting side by side in the garage. The 900 feels noticeably lighter to move and ride.
