I too am kinda surprised in not seeing more of these bolt on modded sleds in the 100+ mph range, not saying setup is bad cuz there's been numerous posts with guys using all different types of clutching and sounds like a lot of them are having trouble even squeaking 100 mph out of a clutched sled with bolt ons. Last year we had 3 different vipers all stock with clutch kits and on snow we would run around 98-100 in 1000', 1/4 mile fastest we ever got was 104 mph with mine. Totally stock just a clutch kit but mine was the only one to do it and I had the softer torsion springs, DuPont slides and extra wheels which all helped, but still I'm curious as to why there isn't more vipers that aren't running over 100 mph with the mods
But, there are more than a few that didn't buy a kit and are in the 100mph club. http://www.ty4stroke.com/threads/post-your-clutch-setup.132429/

Absolutely, that's what I'm getting at, the "clutching on the cheap" setup is about as opposite of a setup from what I used last year as you can get, but both are making very similar results from what I've heard. I never did any crazy long top speed runs with mine last year, farthest we ever went was 1/4 mile for recording speeds, I'm sure there was more there if u held it for a 1/2 mile, but these bolt on vipers should be going faster than what they are. By the sounds of it they wouldn't even compete with a stock nytro and that's just not how it should be

IDK, I didn't buy my Viper for top speed. I don't need to go over 100.... getting to around 90 in the shortest time possible while handling well in the corners is of more interest to me.

I totally agree Barry. Sad thing is just clutching can take a Viper from slower than a Nytro to 2 lengths on a Nytro. What a huge huge difference in both our Vipers just from clutching.....and to stay on topic air box modification just adds more.

Thats kinda my hang up Stu, I read about a stock viper topping out at 90mph..My phazer did that.. weird to say the least..

Make make this one stray any more than what it has already, just very curious to see what this setup will really do if/when the clutching is spot on. Who knows maybe that's all it has, but I'd like to believe there's a lot more in it. Before the amsnow Shootout in December, Nick from curve skis brought excell's viper up to our area and ran a couple times on the radar, conditions sucked and could only run 660' but I thought it ran pretty well in comparison to the other sleds. It was within 8-10 mph of the trail turbo viper and 2 trail mod 800 2 strokes.

It baffles me too because my viper 100% stock with 50 miles on it ran 100 mph..weird indeed!

Mine stock last year only hit 96. I added the OSP can and hit 104 with stock clutching. I ended up getting rid of the OSP can because it was too loud for where I ride. I got a clutch kit, Bikeman muffler and added 96 studs, 48 double backed, so hopefully I will be able to hit 100 again this year. I have only ridden on a lake with 4 inches of fluff. I only was able to hit 89 in about 600 ft.

Chances are your stock clutching was under revving and the added hp of the can brought rpm right up where they should be? 89 in 600 feet!?! Modded 800s and my turbo viper won't even do that on snow...

Ok guys... the last like 15 posts have nothing to do with the topic... lets try to stay on track. You can start another thread.
