Regarding Evo powersports:
Some sound clips, true weight figures and dyno plots would sure go a long way with me
The dyno plots sure should have been done a long time ago for the exhaust stuff.
Excell has shown what their stuff does.
Good points for sure and I hope they do follow through on there promised hp gains as their header and quiet muffler are on the way to me as we speak

Sorry I let this get hijacked by the Evo comments. I edited my post above to indicate lack of documentation by Evo.

Ok so I got a question, I can't make out the numbers/writing on their dyno sheet, but to me it seems that their intake is more of a "moving" mod, probably doesn't really make the extra power unless you're traveling at good speeds, am I on track?

Excell's dyno plot read real nice on a pc monitor
I definitely agree that there could be a difference between a static dyno run and dynamic field conditions, but it's hard to say. I guess if they have adequate cooling fan blowing front to rear and adequate coolant temp control to keep the rad fan from running the differences would be minimal. If they were to monitor ambient temps and look at air box ambient temps they should get a good test.
I have a 36" 10HP tube axial high pressure fan that I use for trucks. Not enough air to simulate true conditions, but enough to keep things under control, shake the hood of the truck, and blow out some of the tire rubber.

Ya doesn't show up so well on a phone lol but just curious how they came up with the numbers when it's really not something you'll see gain with unless you're at decent speeds. When I seen excell's viper run I thought the speeds were pretty respectable for the distance given the conditions were horrible

Not sure what you guys are talking about not seeing gains unless your a decent speeds, the bottom of the graph is engine rpm and the left side is hp.

I think what Barry is trying to say is that he feels an intake mod would be expected to deliver it's gains at speed and through reduced IAT.
I'm thinking adding ore area to the air box entry is key especially when restricted by frogskin.
I'm kind of thinking both the Excell mod and the DIY cutout could work well together.

And did I mention 37 deg F intake air temps while moving? Less this past weekend. Cold air intake is doing just that.

While I am sure excel's intake kit is well thought out after talking to the boys at Evolution Powersports yesterday I think their design will be better.
They are planning on taking cool air from the front nose area and directing it straight to the factory air box with a snorkel and enlarged area of screening. Should give more of a ram air effect given that the air is being directed straight at the intake vs doing a 90 degree turn like in excel's kit.
Time will I guess.....
That sounds even better. I like the idea of taking in cold air at the nose of the sled much like is done on a Push turbo kit.

When I had the airbox out I should have put heat tape on it. That would be a worthwhile addition.

Seen the same for me riding last week in the UP. 35-37 deg f intake air temps.
Outside air was 10-15 deg f.
Does anyone have any intake air temp readings with stock air box.
I never checked mine when stock.

If I remember right mine was 70-80 with stock airbox
