Exchanger coolant leak fixed - Fuel tank,Battery removal

Somebody needs to introduce Artic Cat to constant tension hose clamps.
Put a $16000 price tag on a sled but build it with the cheapest crap you can find.
The chassis needs to catch up with the build quality of the Yamaha engine.

Wow can’t believe this. My buddy’s brand new AC had a problem last weekend similar to this but his hose actually had a cut in it. Dealer fixed it quickly. Is this a shared design component between AC and Yamaha? I’m pretty sure it is the same setup.

And if I might add gaskets and seals, and a real oil tank and a real chaincase.

Got a small coolant leak. Noticed today when pulling sled off trailer. SURE enough right where Dan posted pics. Just over 3 k on sled. Noticed coolant dropped after COLD conditions last trip. First I saw a drop in coolant. Guys have coolant drops especially after COLD conditions they need to check clamps in the post here. Great find Dan and good post. I store my sled in heated garage and saw zero coolant leaks. But when sitting out or in trailer in COLD conditions it appears.

Even if you dont see coolant on floor, always reach up and grab right side of drive axle(between right driver/sprocket and tunnel.) But closer to driver. That is where I always had the coolant dripping down. So I tend to reach up there alot and see if I can feel coolant, as coolant is quite slick feeling.

Sucks that its so hard to get at.

Put sled outside today for 5 hrs in -21c,leaking from under tunnel by the rh driver again.I guess the dealer doing a pressure test last week in a warm shop on a room temp sled does not help them find leaks (said tech could not find any leaks)even when you give them pics of where leaking from.Is this just lazziness or what.Have extended warranty, I do not understand why they would not of taken it apart and checked for loose clamps.Time to take it to another dealer.

Take to a better dealer.......

But honestly, sometimes the only way to be sure something is done and done right, is to do it yourself. I have lived my life this way and there really is nothing I dont do myself. Might be the OCD, or might be the cheap in me...lol ;)

Took it in to diff dealer to find leak that is dripping from top of tunnel down onto rh driver.tech pressure tested it after sitting outside in cold, found leak but not from exchanger hose. Was leaking from bottom of thermostat housing running down hoses/wiring to top of tunnel area and then dripping down he said. Only way he found it was by removing overflow tank.Tightening clamp and replacing clamp did not help he had to cut 1/4 " off hose and reclamp to finally hold pressure and stop leak.Left it outside in -27c overnight checked in morning no leaks brought it back inside cold, pressure tested again all good.Hopefully this is fixed now and no more issues

Just saw a post on another forum where 2 Sidewinders had cuts to the hoses, they believe from ice chunks. If true, then tightening clamps....putting a new hose...etc... will not cure the issue. Sounds like some type of shield would be needed if ice can get to it from the track.

I still find it hard to believe ICE cut through this hose. It takes so much to cut thru this hose with a BRAND NEW RAZOR which is ultra sharp.

I just think if this was the case, we would have seen many many of them happening....why is it just these two? The ice thing may or may not have happened, its a theory. While it surely can happen and it may have, it also could have been something else sharp that caused those sleds failures.

Not saying they are wrong or right. Just saying not to jump to conclusions. Surely something we all need to watch for, but an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT ISSUE then a sled like mine with a seep which was never even rode yet(0 miles).

Has anyone else experienced the coolant leak from this hose? Has anyone come up with a design for a cover/protector for this hose? The "off-season" gives us plenty of time to resolve this problem.

I noticed mine leaked last year. I never noticed it again after that. I did check it every now and then and it hasn't leaked since last season. If I do keep this sled I will do what Dan did and remove the fuel tank and tighten the hose. I will however wait to see if someone comes out with a guard to protect it first so I can install it at the same time.

Now down to the header shroud....must remove the V-Clamp from header to pipe. This will allow you to slide upward the header shroud and out of the way, so you can get at the clamps.

There is heat foil over top of this hose, which is important as the header glows. I used a hair blower to heat up the glue on it and removed it. It loses its stickem abit, so when reinstalling I clamped it in with the bolt for shroud.

All I can say is O my God! You have got to be Kidding me!

There is a new updated hose from Yamaha. They told me the reason is from the twist in the chassis.

Probably a combination of things. Do know need to keep up on all bolt and rivets in that whole area.
