Header vs. Quiet Performance Muffler w/Tunes

My TD SQ 2.5” just arrived today. It arrived with damage so I sent it back but not before getting a peek at it.

I noticed that there are no welded rivet brackets for the wrap around shield, nor does it come with the screw bracket on the top pipe, for the top shield to fasten to.

Did you make your own and weld them on?
The top shield bolts to midpipe and turbo and the 2 other bolts arent used. You can pass the bolts in and put nuts on back side to make it look factory even though they arent actually serving a purpose. I havent wrapped the shield around mine yet but I guess guys are just wrapping it around and riveting the 2 halves together and it stays put.

I put the stock shields on my SQ without insulation. I put the motor side shield first, then the outside shield over it. I used 2 ratchet straps to tighten the shields tight to the muffler and riveted them together with factory big/chrome rivets. I used ratchet straps with no hooks, and put a peice of cardboard under ratchet to prevent denting/marring, making sure ratchet/cardboard on motor side in case it did.

I also riveted the shield to the upper bracket so shields wont ever move up/down or rattle. Been using it like this for 5 seasons, no issues. .

Thanks for that info, I shall pass it on to my buddy. He also received his today and his is AOK!

Thanks for that bit of engineering and shield R&D! Shall pass it on.

Ratchet straps work on quite a few tricks. I use them for, hole line up on rear suspension bolts, compressing the tunnel for ease of snap ring placement, etc..

That's what I did when I ran it.

Thanks for all of the replies pertaining to this TD SQ2.5” and it’s shield mounting.

Looks like I have a bit of a wait whereas mine delivered with some damage to the flex joint expandable pipe, and now that I shipped it back, I need to wait until they receive it so I can get refunded and get another.
A good friend and riding/racing buddy also got the same delivered yesterday, and his is AOK, so We talked about welding some mounting brackets on the muffler and top pipe !

So yeah, we have a lot of time before the snow flies, so shall have to look at both stock and SQ and come up with a plan!

I would weld some mounting tabs to keep it secure

You are not alone my friend. The best ratchet straps for winder repairs imo, are the ones fron Harbor Freight without hooks. T20210402_083734.jpg he hooks just get in the way, or make strap too long!!

They do have a pretty good selection of tools and other. That’s my main tool spot since our Sears and other tool shops closed years ago. I do have some of those but mine are much shorter and heavy duty for tying my bikes down in trailer when traveling with them. So prior to putting my shield on I shall pay another visit to Harbor Freight, whereas I do want it nice and tight so it stays quiet.

Yes that is our plan.
Sure would like to find out what company sources the stock brackets to the muffler manufacturer.

Easy way would be to cut originals off and adapt those. But then ruin stock exhaust.
