I tried it on my cat and it doesn't matter. Tried to cycle the pump twice and tried it not at all on two separate occasions and it still takes two times to stay running.Have you also tried the No Prime just turn the key method?
The only time it didn't is when I tapped the throttle after letting go of the key on the first crank. It stayed running that time.
Thank You Ryno. The no prime method is how I have always started my sled. Results have always varied with others.
Thank You Mrupnorth. Both your sleds are stock ie. can, airbox, tuner etc?
Another question for those that have had it after recieving the letter. This is most important.
Did Yamaha directly contact you to ask these same type questions I and others have been asking after you had your flash?

Yes, stock sleds no modifications.

Haha funny you ask. I called my dealer (Ken's sports) about the two times to start issue and was told he has done several flashes with no complaints but they have probably not tried to start the sled??? He also said I should wait and take the sled out for a good ride when we get snow and then see how it starts????? Not sure what difference this would make????????Thank You Mrupnorth. He also stated that he has sold tons of the 7000 series sleds with no starter issues???

Just went out and tried starting my sled not letting it prime/cycle. It stumbled a couple times but stayed running at 1750rpm. I shut it off after about 10 seconds. This time I let the ignition cycle....it took two attempts to start. Just food for thought for the variances we might still see!
I havent heard of a 7000 munching one either and TA Motorsports has not had one single starter failure other than one case of magnets falling off from stuck solenoid on 7000's or Vipers. But when you see it happen like I have it makes you uneasy and a poor starting and idling sled dont help the confidence level! Maybe the Cat clutch has enough wieght to it to keep the engine momentum going forward and not kickingback? Not going to add a wieght to my clutch to make up for the most basic tuning that seems impossible from both Yamaha and Cat now. Cmon its idle and starting! I thought once Carbs and chokes went away these discussions would be thing of past.Haha funny you ask. Here is at least one 7000 starter failure I've read about. http://www.hardcoresledder.com/forums/493-procross-2012/1598618-zr7000-starter-problem-2.html
I am certainly hopeful that this '17 flash has a timing and fuel ratio that avoids the kick backs. I do have to admit though I'm not really thrilled with the two crank cycles being required when cold.

Just got mine done this afternoon and it definitely runs better! Started right up and now doesnt sputter in the 2500 -2800 rpm range anymore and it did when I drove it into the shop . Driving out it was smooth, backed it out 100ft to the trailer and no lean sputter anymore. Haven't started it cold yet but will later tonight. It always idled smooth as my buddy's nytro if not better. I do have a hurricane turbo though with pcv with out the o2 sensor delete

Yes! It idle smooth and seemed to start good, but still stumbled at low speed, earlier this fall it needed two starts to run even before the flash. Dealer is also an MCX dealer and knows his yamaha. About the two tries to start ,said it's the Temps, shouldn't do it when it's actually cold out! We'll see! I'll post in an hour or so when it cools off to ambient temp.

I'll be getting my sled flashed ASAP. I didn't have time before going north last weekend. My idle is very ruff with my new pcv. It hunts at least 100 rpm , hopefully the flash will help

Started right up instantly and idles solid with a 50rpm fluctuation at most. My afr #a are around 12.5 at idle as before but my 2600rpm were over 14. Before the flash and now it's at 12.5 or so. I can easily hold it at 2600 rpm now to. It smells pretty rich in the trailer though.may be just cold. It's around 32deg(oC) out now.

Non Turbos we richened up with PCV to get rid of surging Idle. So that makes sense that flash would also richen low rpm. So did it still take two tries to start? What method did you use? Prime or just turn key?
