That time of year again, waiting for snow and spending money.
Has anyone used the GAP ram air on a stock muffler tune? I can see where it has been used on header and PM tunes but not a lot on SM tunes.
Is it worth it? Will it work WITHOUT a closed loop upgrade? Do you need to inform the tuner of it before install?
They are priced between $300 and $214.
I already have the Hurricane intake tube and was wondering if this thing would help at all.

I installed one a season or two ago, and honestly I dont know what to believe.
IMHO, someone would have to get IAT's of a gap ram air vs a cold air kit to verify any usefulness. Possibly the need for more fuel pressure to maintain a specific afr. I think it's just a cool novelty.

@ 10psi of boost and running at 8500 rpm, the 998 is pulling air in at about 75MPH. That is what it takes to keep the engine fed with sufficient airflow. If the intake were already ideal, thats also the speed you would have to overcome to have the ram air intake have any (theoretical) noticeable effect. The stock intake however, not ideal. It is long, convoluted, and has several pinch points in the intake ducts under the hood (creating turbulence). The biggest impact of the ram air intake would come from bypassing the molded air ducts built into the hood. The GAP intake is ideal at creating some small amounts of intake efficiency while remaining relatively stealthy if you care about that but ... it still isn't an ideal intake due to the bend in airflow caused by still using the stock airbox. An ideal intake would be both ram air, have a smooth transition from greatest diameter to intake pipe size, and would have a smooth radius bend to reduce turbulence in the intake air stream.

The benefit is the colder charge of air. I don't believe there is a true ram effect but the airbox is getting packed with cold air instead of a stock airbox or Cold air intake inside the engine compartment drawing warm air. They absolutely work

It has been previously stated and proven (via temp probes) that the stock hood actually does a pretty good job of ducting cold air into airbox, compared to using a cai setup which can pull warm underhood air into inlet tube (at low speeds especially).
Agreed on the CAI under hood TF. They do a nice job of sucking in belt dust, but if it is not pulling external air it's useless.

The GAP ram air actually takes it from outside the hood.It has been previously stated and proven (via temp probes) that the stock hood actually does a pretty good job of ducting cold air into airbox, compared to using a cai setup which can pull warm underhood air into inlet tube (at low speeds especially).

Yes. I was more referring to "cold air intakes" which do pull underhood air especially at slow speeds. The GAP ram air actually takes it from outside the hood.
