Have you guys heard this news about Arctic Cat?

It says it is a "mid-size," so I am assuming it is an adult sled. I wonder if Yamaha will try to fit a Phazer motor into the Blast? I want one!

Blast ZR 400lbs. 65 hp
Should make it a mod class for snowcross!
Every 14 year old kid needs to race a mod sled!

I will second this. I hope we get a Yamaha version of the blast with a 4 stroke motor! Would really like a fan cooled 4 stroke but will settle for phazer engine.

$8000 seems a little steep if this is a kids sled. I was hoping it would be closer to 5-6K.

400 lbs and 65 HP is similar to the old 2 stroke Phazer back in the day with a little more power then that had.

Looks to me like they are marketing them as adult sleds, not kid's sleds. Price wise, they are pretty close to the cost of a new Phazer when Yamaha stopped making them. It should be a good entry level for adults new to the sport, and it should appeal to women (or smaller men) who don't want to muscle around the big sleds. It will also be a logical step up from the 200cc Snow Scoot as the kids get older. I just hope that Yamaha has got a 4-stroke to fit that chassis!

There is a Riot X 8000 146, with Alpha rear also. Looks great in black, silver and red.

Blast! is that the noise it makes when the piston lets go. Just kidding, I might have to think about this for the grand-kids coming up.

And therein lies the reason manufacturers have been reluctant to build sleds of this type. People equate smaller size with lower cost. But just because a sled is smaller in size and displacement doesn't mean its any less expensive to make. Lesser quality components are one thing, but consider that manufacturing costs are relatively equal whether you're building a full size sled or something like this "Blast", and suddenly the price doesn't seem so out of line. Another way to look at it is if you were to go to a custom builder and spec out a sled like this, the price would likely be as much if not more than a full size sled. I'm just saying that this new sled from Cat is not really priced out of line when you consider what it costs to make.

Yamaha trademarked the name "Snosport" back in March of this year, so I would assume that Yamaha will have their own version.

The industry needed a sled like this! They have to do something to get new blood and interest in the sport again! It will be interesting to see what you can actually pick one of these up for price wise.
