Wow... This is putting a big black cloud over my "awesome " snow checked viper ltx le. Does anyone know if Yamaha has made a fix with the 2016 machines?

If they have an update of course it will be in the 2016's. They have not even started to build them yet. Also in the bizarre chance that they did not, there would be an update that would be given to you as the point of updating is to not have to pay for warranty repairs before they have to.

Yes they're putting in a new starter, I put 800-1000 miles on mine after my starter went this year, my buddies cat 7000 had the starter going at 600 miles, it's at the shop now waiting for parts which are on back order until June

My sled is already in the dealership. It came in as the " show sled " and when I orderd it Yamaha had already stopped making the le's for the year. But I lucked out the dealer is going to sell me the show one.If they have an update of course it will be in the 2016's. They have not even started to build them yet. This would be excellent news. I suffer from both kickback and off idle pop. I bleed blue for a reason, Yamaha sleds just work. This is the first Yammy I've had that "has issues". Don't get me wrong, I love the Vipers ride, power, and the overall feel of the sled. I'm happy with my purchase so far, but I don't have the peace of mind I had with my other Yamahas.

That's great. When I talked to the Rep at the snow show a few weeks ago he said that they had not started this years production runs yet as they were still procuring parts that they would need and finalizing the numbers or pre orders. He says they typically start building them in May/June. The LE's are normally the first to be built as they are a limited production run. Take this for what its worth as it came from someone else's mouth.

Last year the XTX LEs were built in September and later but maybe that rep was not around then? The LTX LEs were built early spring. Of course this year could be totally different to.

If the starter was a new part # when you look it up on the online microfiche it should show as new ,which it doesn't.
Normally what i have seen is the new number is black and the old number is in red beside it, and it clearly states replaces beside the red number.
I heard someone else mention about a new starter back a few months ago but the microfiche shows no changes.
I have also heard a new reflash is comming that addresses the kick back issue
Why change the starter if the reflash is going to solve the starter/kickback issue. Seems like wasted engineering resources to me.
According to the microfiche the only changes to the starter are a new nut for the positive connection and a new oring that seals the body to the end caps.
Can somebody with a connection to a dealer stating this info, actually post up the part number for the new starter??
Not saying anyone is lying, just cant find any info about a new starter other than on this site

I don't know the figures but some guys had just the starter itself crack with no damage to any gears. Maybe they are fixing more than one issue.
