How many vipers with starters going bad?

Not sure but started really hard -30 yesterday now won't move at all and sputtering thinking a gear not sure yet
Sounds like what mine did last Thursday morning in Sudbury(-27 felt like -40). Started hard I let it warm up and a small ride to timmy's and shut if off. After that nothing but grinding than nothing at all.

Funny this was in North bay good thing one more year warranty. Need block heater up there. Absolutely no starting issues before.

If you're stranded, do this!

Sorry guys don't see the humor in that, Yamaha should be ashamed. I feel sorry for owners of this Viper.

This Yamaha owner is a good friend of mine and riding buddy. Sure he was disappointed his sled broke but it was a very memorable day and a fun ride for all of us. We still all talk about that ride and joke about it, good times with good friends. Sleds can break anytime, anywhere, any brand. I agree Yamaha needs to look into this start issue a little harder.

The problem is happening on my 14 Vector. It's at the dealer now. Lucky that I have my 05 Vector as a backup.

I am just glad no one was hurt. : )

Did a bit of research before plunging into having new Starter Gears made. There is a new gear for the Old motor 14-16 early build. Now the question is has anyone had the new gear fail? This is the part #. If anyone who has had multiple starter AND gear failures can look what parts were used I would sure appreciate it. I am not a wealthy person and cannot afford to have gears made if there is no need too. Yamaha has not said whether this new gear is better or is also failing.

At least my dealer said he would cover me under warranty. They don't have too seeing my sleds warranty was only one year and I put a turbo in the sled. I was riding up in the Sudbury area and they tried to find me someone up there with the parts but no luck. They seemed to understand that its a problem with the sled and felt really bad for me that my trip got cut short.
A little follow up on this post. I really can't say enough good things about the boys(Brad) at Markham Mower my Yamaha Dealership. They replaced my starter and gears no charge!!! No charge on labor or parts and they threw in oil change and filter also. Then it came up in conversation that I'm getting married soon and my Jack & Jill is in March. They bought tickets off me and pulled a brand new Stilh gas leaf blower off the self and gave it to me for a door prize.
So you guys in Ontario looking for a dealer that will give you the BEST customer service ever should seriously consider taking your business to Boys over at Markham Mower.

That is nice Congratulations!
Can you look at your invoice for part # of gear they used?

They didn't have my paper work done when I picked it up. I wasn't too worried about it after the kiss they just blew me. But I will send them an email next week and ask them for a copy for my records and when I get it I will let you know.
