How many vipers with starters going bad?

Warranty is more dependant on your dealer than Yamaha.
Other than a catastrophic engine failure that can be directly connected to the EVO flash warranty should not be an issue.
I would not go that far in promising warranty. I have seen warranty claims denied just because the TPS sensor was tampered with. Anything emissions related the OEMs take very seriously. I have never seen them request a entire ECU for inspection though I have seen them look at what info it contains. Cat is very notorious for that.

Local machinist told me he would use the old gear first to find the proper draw temperature. Then he wouldn't take too much out of the new gear. $60
Pretty cheap in my book. Gears are just to brittle that's all. More than likely they had a bad batch that were to hard.
The gears are supposed to be just case hardened. So you will find two hardness's through the gear. Not sure how that affects rehardening. I know when we did it in school a powder was used. I agree just a bad batch like the rods.

I'm not promising warranty, but a chain case bearing failure or a weld failure on the header or any thing like that would have nothing to do with the ECU flash.
My exhaust heat shield cracked in several places, had four burn spots and was very obviously hammer massaged from trying to make it fit over an EVO header, and my dealer replaced it no questions asked.

It's certainly dependent on how well your dealer is willing to take care of you. If you bought the sled somewhere else, then a lot of dealers are less like likely to let things slide. A GOOD dealer would take care of you no matter where the sled was purchased, in turn hoping to earn your business on your next purchase. I'm assuming the dealers make less/hr on warranty repairs than they do on regular service, if it is like the automotive world. The dealer I purchased my sled from repeatedly said he was here to take care of me, and he has already helped me out tremendously when I had my tow vehicle break down, so I'm pretty happy/confident in him so far!

I've read of people taking their sled into the dealer and asking the dealer NOT to re-flash the ecu, but the dealer told them that Yamaha required them to put the most recent flash in. If I run in to this, will my vendor re load the evo flash for free if I've already paid for it once? Paying for a aftermarket flash is paying for the RnD, I feel that a good vendor would re-flash at no charge...

As far as the flash goes. I was told yesterday that there is still a another flash coming. That was right from a Yamaha tech that my dealer was talking to about a sled they are having problems with.

We all have been told that since the day the 2015 flash came out... It was supposed to be released last November but it kept getting pushed back until they said to just hold the key until fully started... I do not think Yamaha has one coming but I am hopeful. All I can say is I had one starter go at 1700 miles and my dealer got me in the same day it happened and got it back to me in a week no charge.

Cannondale when was that new starter gear part number released? I wonder it I got a new one? Myn was replaced back in early December.

Very recently. I will see if I can come up with a date.

I really hope so. I read every post in this thread hoping that when I got to the end there would be a solution....no dice as of yet!

Gear on left is the new gear. Is some slight visual differences such as a goldish color where old is grey and machining difference on end. small step. Does say Made in Japan on package so thats good! Will try finding date when the change was made soon.

Did some checking for you. The # changed in 2014. Couldn't pinpoint any closer.

If it is 14 then it only eliminates 14's and some 15's as far as not having it. Dont think a guy could even go by build dates on sleds since who knows when motor was built. Obviously have had failures in 14's and 15's so not good as far as figuring out whether its successful or not even if we know the exact date in 14. Crap.
