View attachment 115238 View attachment 115236 I had to remove the magneto cover because another turbo bracket related problem and look what i found! The starter was still good!
There are probably so many sled that are running now whit litle metal piece in the motor..... I have the towel in my hand even if its the best riding sled i ever own! Its a part time job to Own and ride this sled! Lol
Has anyone checked if that gear has a updated part # yet? Going to check mine this spring and would like to replace that gear IF it has been updated. If not no need to even bother since nothing can be done anyway. Good catch Byam! This is very important find in my mind. Can't say for sure but looks like the gear chips out first. We never knew physically what broke first the starter or the gear. Thanks.
I am going to look into having this gear made. I still believe that poor heat treating is cause of this failure also. I am going to need a gear from someone that had one fail. It will be sent to the only company I trust to make this gear right. Hanover Gear. Anyone else have a better idea?

The strange thing is the same starters and gear are used in other models and I dont see them having the same issues. The 2016 gear number has changed and is used in several 16 models but I dont know what has changed on the gear itself.

heard a new one on pre 16 vipers, the positive battery cable is too small gauge, causing weak power to starter

Grinding hard!!
Then gear is shot too. I need a shot gear to send to Hanover gear. Anyone get ahold of one they can donate to project?

I have a feeling that next year the dealers are going to be busy with warranty work. A lot of the 2014's have a 3 year warranty.....
