If I go through one more set of sliders I swear......

Ok this is seriously rediculous. I am on my 4 set of sliders since I bought this sled. Under a 1000 miles. I have removed the skid, added the marginal snow kit, loosened the track as much as possible without it ratcheting and have been riding in great snow conditions. I even broke this last set in driving on a packed lake trail to warm them the drive in powder to rapidly cool them. I was going to take the plunge and buy a ZX2 but I hear some guys complaining about slider wear there too.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I think you'll end up getting the same replies that most people who complain about slide life get; i.e:

1. yamaha sucks - put in a __ skid,
2. buy bigger wheels
3. add a marginal kit to a different location
4. run with more slack in your track (i realize you mentioned this already, but somebody will mention it again)
5. slides last longer than you *think* they will

What are you using for your basis for deciding it's time to change slides? Is it how they have worn compared to the the "wear line" ? Are the rails showing through the bottom of the slides? Something else?

Posting some pics might be helpful. Also, did you replace slides before extending to 144, or did you make that switch before doing any riding? I wonder if your extentions might be a factor in some way or another.

I put many a mile on the mono skid. The hyfax never lasted long for me either.

With the ZX2, my first set of stock hyfax lasted 11,000 miles. My second set of aftermarket (Marshall) hyfax lasted 4,000 miles with low snow conditions. I think you can wait longer than most do to change them on the ZX2. There are a ton of wheels on the skid.

I bought the sled used with the 144" Tracks USA rail extension tipped slightly. The wear seemed to be occuring at the point where the rail extension attatched to the skid therefore I added the marginal snow kit there. There was also wear at the front of the skid but not as badly.
I am on my first set of sliders since installing the extra wheels but I noticed a quite a bit of wear after only 100 miles in great snow condition.
They seem to heat up alot and flare out. One set was actually worn through while the others were paper thin in the 'wear spots'.
I love the sled, well for the most part, but I can't see replacing sliders this often continuing.
And the track is loose, the adjusters are backed off almost to the end.

I don't think I have the mono skid, I have 2 shocks in the suspension. Why does it say extreme by my name? :o| Must be cuz I'm extremely sloooow lol

Can I see the pic on the wear? I have 2700 miles and I changed mine simply because I wanted the color white, but the wear was minimal on the stock Hyfax. I have about 500 miles on the new ones with no wear yet. I know others have commented on possibilities to mitigate but I would love to see how and where they are wearing.

I'm not a pro but some skids get to a certain point and they stop making friction and if you are not wearing anything out run it equals extra hp!!!! at the track.

The hyfax on my attak wore down to the wear line in a couple of hundred miles. I kept replacing them $20 no big deal. Fianally last season when they looked like they were wore out, I said f&^% it, I'm leaving them on. I ran them a full season and they are the same as they were 1500 miles ago. I'm gonna replace them in the off season just cause I got new ones lyin around. Point is RELAX, they wear like crazy the first couple hundred miles and then they stop. At least that's what I've found. :jump:

Was in the same boat as you with mono skid, ate hyfax.....went with PPerf offset kit and with close to 3000 miles, maybe 30% wear

these hyfax needed to be changed every time. Once there were coming out the sides they were so bad. One set
had just worn completely through and two sets were paper thin at the wear spot. I'm keeping a close eye on this latest set. All my sets have worn only in certain spots. So I added wheels there

I've been running pol wheels for 3 years, they are larger than the yam wheels. Bought them from Dennis Kirk for about $20 eac with replaceable bearings, problem went away.......
