I could see a joint effort where Yamaha/Arctic Cat share a common chassis and motors but have unique styling and options still selling under their brand name. This happens a lot in the auto industry. Ford Fusion/Mazda 6. Ford Ranger/Mazda B4000. Hyundai Sonata/Kia Optima. All based on the same chassis but very different styling and options. Different warranty pricing etc. A few years ago I looked at Ford Rangers. Ended up with a Mazda B4000. Same basic truck but the Mazda had a few things over the Ranger that I liked.

I just don't see it happening....why did AC build an engine plant and planing on building there own engine ...alot of money to spend if they had plans on getting engine's from yamaha..
Its funny how one person says something and it just goes crazy ....he's setting back laughing his a$$ off at this...this reminds me every year the new releases come out

only way i see that ever happening is if AC bombs sooooooo bad on thier own engines it has to beg yamaha for engines and will have to pay the price for them..... but i dont think that will happen ever. yamaha will just absorb AC and be that much awesomer!! lol

AC built a plant to build two strokes...and they still need DFI...which yamaha has (HPDI)...Do you think AC is gonna build their own 4 stroke engines?? 4 strokes are very expensive to build...it's much easier for them to buy 4 strokes. Two strokes cat can build...BUT..if they don't have an answer to the etec...why bother?? Even polaris gets better fuel, and oil economy out of their two strokes...people want performance, but they want fuel economy too...Cat's perform..but shake, smoke, and suck fuel and oil...like I said...If they don't have DFI...why bother...Cat would have to buy the rights to somebody's direct injection tech...why not yamaha??
Clearly yamaha makes the best 4 stroke engines...if I was cat...even if I'm making my own two strokes...I'd still use yami 4 strokes..it would be alot cheaper than building them yourself.
I still haven't seen anything on cat's supposed engine plant...with new regulations coming maybe they won't build two strokes..who knows.
It's all just speculation...but to me...it kinda makes sense.

You must be joking...lol.....I love yamaha's...but I ain't that blind...A RUsh, XP..or the new cat will handle circles around a yamaha...and the new cat, and doo both ride better in rough conditions.
Nothing beats a yamaha 4 stroke...but ride?? Handling?? Better than everything else?? put the pipe down dude...lol

I was watching Snowmobiler TV...a rep from Yamaha explained why they did the 120 and the joint effort, but said that's where it ends.

OEM partnerships are all about profitability & what makes sense to both companies. No one said anything about ATV or PWC engines just snowmobile engines. As far as I know AC is out of PWC biz as was not profitable for them. Yamaha will not continue with 8-12% market share of shrinking snowmobile market. Yamaha OEM supplier of 4s snowmobile engines to AC makes so much sense it probably will happen in near future. IMO I would be very surprised to see Yamaha continue to produce turnkey sleds after 2016 with a platform that is 10 years old. lol No other OEM does that how can Yamaha? Open your eyes Yamaha is not doing anything new with snowmobiles by their choice the profitabilty is just not there for retooling a new platform so same old same old until the market share is so small Yamaha drops the line. The only way Yamaha can continue snowmobile production is to partner with AC somehow someway. Maybe share technolgy or just produce engines I don't know how the relationship will evolve but both AC & Yamaha need each other like fish need water so something will happen in near future.

I'll support Malibu. Ride is a subjective thing and I happen to like the ride of my Attak over other sleds I've ridden. It can't be that every Yamaha rider only rides them for the motor. Hell I have friends who have SkiDoos and Cats who are planning to switch after riding the setup Apex Attaks in our group.Heritage said:Malibu said:Nobody buys a yamaha fore the handling????well i did.i tried all the brand including Lynx.the apex was the most presidictable ride.well the engine didnt make it worse;-)apex xtx 2011

Only the 366 and smaller motors.
Yamaha market share may be small and shrinking but besides the advantage of having a full lineup for all seasons Yamaha also will remember that at one time maybe more they were the market leader.I know for sure the 2 stroke Phazer was the market leader of the time.Even now if number of 4stroke snowmobiles out there still being ridden I would have to believe that RX1 and Apex's far outnumber anything on trails so that would give Yamaha a market lead and all the benefits such as parts supplying that would come with it.I think worry of the snow divisions demise is way off base.

so you all think that a yam-cat sled would be the ticket, heck, all the issues with the 2012 cats are not even motor related, they are all chassis issues,i think yam makes a better chassis,i've never had chassis issues with my sleds, maybe the handling is not up to parr, but it can be improved easily
