Larger intercooler?

I've only compared on datalogs over a 1320' run. It would be 20-25 degrees less than the stock cooler over all scenarios I would bet.
Appreciate the follow up. I agree with your assessment. My old 1100 ran 20 - 25 degrees cooler than the 998 on the same day in the same conditions. The 1100 intercooler was better placed and a better unit. That 20 - 25 degree difference translates to more ponies.

What's the weight difference on one of these aftermarket intercoolers vs stock? Been considering one for a while now.

I tried three different intercooler and of the three Tomcats 3 inch was the most effective, fit the best and was the lightest.
What were the other 2? Four inch and 5 inch?

Has anyone tried the concept of increasing stock intercooler flow by drilling holes in bulkhead behind the cooler? Any positive gains?

Opened up the whole front bulkhead on my 17 behind the intercooler and added the frogskinz to the bulkhead, did nothing to help intake temps. Not going to do it on my 23 thats certain. Perhaps the frogskinz just killed the airflow enough to kill the flow? But you have to keep the snow out of the front end thats for sure.

File that one under another "worthless trick of the week" that didn't pan out.

Good feedback on the frogskinz Mike. Was curious if that kit would work.
100% agree on the snow - as others have done, I just installed the Arctic cat grill (part #: 7606-117) - hoping it does a better job than the stocker. Quick pic for comparisons.

Are you adding any additional venting to your 2023? TY

I have a Hurricane add on intercooler. I will let it go for $300

I run the Cat grill on my Winders too, it works much better than the Yamaha grill, does't hold near as much snow. Want even better cooling and airflow take the grill right off, it helps to cool better also, but of course you're risking damage to the cooler, so I run the Cat grill all the time.

I want you to know I did not put the frogskinz in front of the intercooler, but behind it on the huge hole after ventilating the bulkhead. Putting It in front of the cooler would absolutely kill the flow of air to the intercooler, this I know.

No, I have machines running around with no added venting with the TAPP primary, XS belt and proper offset and have never blown a belt. I believe the belt and roller issues I had were all on account of the stock Yamaha primary, so I have no plans at this time to add any additional venting.
