Well that time of year is getting close again. So is there going to be a Manitoba ride this year? I loved Lac Du Bonnet as a starting point nice hotel, grub and beverages available.
I want to ride! Who else?

Saskquatch. As a newbie but diehard, Ive been waiting for two years to go on a ride. I sold my Cats and bought Yamahas. Great to see rides being organized all over and I am looking at doing a few this year. The LDB ride looks pretty good for me as I live in Winnipeg. I will talk to Brian this weekend as he installing a revalved shock for me. Can you let me know what is involved in organizing as I would certainly help out if needed.
Any potential dates you had in mind? I agree the Glen Howard is a good place to stay up there. Great food and good clean rooms. Last year my son and I drove up from Winnipeg on our sleds to the Pinewood Lodge at Dorothy Lake and stayed there two nights. We ripped around there and did a trip up to Nopiming and back. The Pinewood is the ultimate for loding but no restaurant service for individuals or very small groups, only room service. However if we had a decent size group, they may do meals in their restaurant area.
You ever throught about doing a few days in LDB / Whieshell then heading south possibly into Northern Minnesota and then looping back?
Remember I know nothing about the rides but can certainly plan alot of this to help out.

I've already got my trips planned for this season Charlie. I will be riding through Manitoba in late February so I just might see you out on the trail.

I would love to go with you on your trip in late Feb. My problem is our annual trip of 5 days leaves one day to prep the sled and drive 6 hours to ride another 6. I'm just not sure if my aging body can keep up that pace!
If I had known I was going to live this long I would have taken way better care of myself.

I was thinking about the 24th to the 28th. As far as riding the area goes I have hit most trails in eastern Manitoba. last year we left from here rode to Nopoming lodge. Next day to Lac Du Bonnet, took a spin around the area because from Nopoming to LDB is a short ride. Next day we rode to Kenora. Next day to Atikokan (long day over 300 miles). Next day to Dryden. Total was 1000 plus miles.
Awesome ride. Every kind of trail imaginable.
Never been south of the border by sled but if Lac Du Bonnet is the home base 200 to 300 mile loops are easy. Without prerunning the trails you could hit some junk trails but those are few in that area.

I havent rode this one but looks somewhat interesting. Need some feedback from the MN folks. I always like the US places to sleep over. The hotels and bars are alot of fun.
Please comment and critique or add any other routes.
Could we do this easily in four days?

man that would be awesome, I wonder if I'll ever get the time off!
My uncle owns both the Lakeview and Caseys in lac du bonnet. We went there last year with my dad and some of his friends, they went to bed around midnight and me and my buddy closed the bar down and then some with my uncle...sure didn't have a fun ride home with those bumpy sunday trails out there!!
Anything I can do to help let me know maybe we can have a real big ty mb ride this year!!!
any good powder areas on that ride? I hear that Duck Mountain is amazing riding too, but I've never been anybody got some pros and cons?
K I'm done sorry for the rambling I'm just making myself sick about sledding. I don't know if there is any posts i haven't read. I start reading RX1 forum tomorrow cuz I'm almost done apex/attak!

Does every one have a current Passport? I do!
The border crossing is relatively quiet at that point. Last time I did that was in December last year where my son and I crossed with the sleds to go to Rosseau from Winnipeg for a sandwich at the Rosseau Subway.... LOL
Its pretty cool crossing in a sled as the patrol agents run the sled plate number into their system while you remove your helmet and belaclava so they can visually ID you. We stopped at the Canadian side first and just asked a few stupid questions like... what time do you close etc. You have to make sure that you dont show up at this crossing at weird hours as they actually close both sides in the evening later on I think.
