What kind of boost controllers are you guys using?

Im getting sick of the tcv not compensating enough, and I want to install a manual controller instead.

Does the small manual ones with a spring and a ceramic ball work allright?

Thanks

Hallman Pro RX is a great MBC, cost about $100 USD.

Check out our site sponsors webshops at the bottom of the main page, you'll find it.

Thanks,

What is the difference between the stainless steel and the ceramic ball types?

The ceramic ball type costs a little more, but is there any noticeable difference?

Im running a GrimmSpeed. Best boost controller on the market and about the same price $100usd shipped. The Hallman Pro is great unit too.

In the past there have been instances where the ball/ ball&spring have become stuck due to either corrosion or ice and caused overboosting. I have always just removed the ball and spring to prevent this problem. Operation without the ball and spring is virtually identical even though the ball and spring are installed to block the air signal up to a certain pressure (around 5 psi). The ceramic balls are less prone to sticking.

The ceramic ball have served me well for 4 seasons, no freezing so far. Put in the stiff spring.

Would you care to go into detail about what Roest said about running it without the spring and ball? If I understood it right i should not need the ball and spring at all, or did i get it wrong?

Thanks

It makes no sence to me on the Hallman Pro RX MBC to remove the ceramic ball as long as you use the stiff spring delivered with the kit, the Hallman comes with both a soft and stiff spring, the soft spring is installed by default from Hallman.

I have used the soft spring with the hallman for three seasons - it has worked flawless ;-) lets you adjust 5psi. I would be carefull installing the stiff spring on the 180kit. I am thinking about fuel delivery (fuelmap etc) and comp.ratio vs octane if your kit is installed according to the mcx manual.

TT - you know..... that's way to little adjustability for my application LOL,.... but I'm only interested in adjusting in one direction... UP... high enough to reach like 22 lbs :)

How much higher AFR values would you get for each psi/ bar you raise the boost? Do you know?

Like, at 0.4 I have a AFR of 11.5. At 0.5 the AFR is 11.8 .. and so on.

So what Im really asking is;

As long as the AFR readings are good, can I increase the boost level without being afraid of causing engine damage? Or are there other factors to consider too?

Dimebag, it doesn't work that way.

Your AFR's is supposed to be at 11.8-12.0 at WOT no matter the boost pressure you're at.
The amount of boost you can run depends on a range of variables with fuel octane and compression level as the major ones.
