Good deal
46 good starting angle on STM for drag race
Have you tried a 39 35?on your stocker
Assume holeshot may be better
Put a 38 or 40 finish in those conditions and the STM secondary will top end better than it currently does

I am going to give it a try.try the dalton v2 black/orange at 6-3 with the 35 helix , stock secondary , Tapp black spring , 1mm roller , 2 Allan screws each arm , no washer , 290 hp
When I bought my TAPP and Pro-4 I don't think there was a lot of test time on the combo for the 998 SMT. I bought it " set up". Since then I have been constantly pulling weight out of the primary and trying to find the balance with the secondary. It does pull hard but I think there is more on the table. I am going to go back to stock secondary with the B/O spring and test. My primary is already set up similarly as you described with a little less weight---I am "only" at 270 hp

Yeah I saw that. I will start with @5grams less per arm. But if you can run that secondary set up on 290 HP, I should be able to use it as a starting point for my 270 tune

yes im very happy with my set up ,my buddy which has a 300hp tune , stm clutch front and back , 46/36 using a epi purple spring middle hole also works good ,but my set up pulls him on top end , but in a drag race he gets me , most sleds r way that r using stm secondary r 46/36 purple spring and work very well .im still using the 8jp belt with good success and my buddy also is using the stock cat belt on his stm set up .we run big lakes and long distance , sleds r geared at 1.68 , personally the big heavy springs r not needed for the secondary , im using the dalton v2 black / orange at 6-3 , clutches r clean , at 6-2 my clutches should alittle smear of belt , and your right not one setup will be perfect for all condition , less snow restriction means less heat on the clutchs , more snow load more heat , I did order a stm secondary and will try it to see if it will give me the top end like my stock secondary is giving me now , I have no I hopes
What is your best top speed in good conditions?

haven't had any good conditions these season , 130 mph with 2-3 inches of hard pack snow , bare ice would have seen 135 mph plus for sure on max 17 ,What is your best top speed in good conditions?

Well after going back to my stock secondary with a Dalton B/O set at 90 degrees on the stock 35 helix, XS825 belt, and trail riding it I am glad to report that my secondary problem has disappeared. No more belt "smear" from over pinching the belt, no slip. Cool clutches. Good performance. RPM almost spot on, I can do some really fine tuning with my clickers. I will use this set up for my upcoming saddlebag trip.
I now have idea what that Pro-4 needs to preform better. I may fool with it at the end of the year if we still have snow....
Thanks Mike for the insight on this as I had never experienced over pinching a belt and the results.
The only irritating part is I bought this package "set up". While I realize each set up will need to be fine tuned for each sled and rider, I am slightly irritated how far out to lunch this package was as bought. I spent another $200 to get it to where it needs to be. Again the money isn't the issue, its the time spent jacking with it. While I do enjoy the tuning aspect I would expect the clutch's to be a little more in the ballpark and all tuning parts included....

Try a 36 to a 40 finish
a 46 or 44 start
they work similar to cat old clutch I would assume. Looks like the STM ones which I have used.
glad to here it’s working good

Glad it worked out well for you Rich!
It really shows how far out of whack one can get when trying more than one thing at a time. You can twist yourself in knots when going to different clutches on both ends along with a different belt. And you found out, as I did this season, is there really is nothing wrong with the Winder secondary, the problem is the Winder primary!

Hi could you tell me if that Dalton blk/org first gen or second gen,as the second gen is said to be wrapped to at least 80* vrs gen 1 at 70*so 90* seems better suited for 2nd gen, only reason I ask,is I have both springs to try,and I may now even go back to stock helix and stock yellow spring as well. Pete, I run V1 at 90* on mine. V1 slides on with ZERO wrap at 40* So does the V2.
Myself, I don't see the difference between the two other than the paint stripe.

The old school cat secondarys had a couple degrees more sheave angle than the STM tuner, but yea very similar.
