No washer behind secondary

So, if you remove 3mm from hub. How does that work with factory set up? As far as belt height in secondary? Or does that stay the same?

I would think 59mm is a good avrg to aim for.

Hoping to get some miles on mine in Qc next weekend if all goes well.....Im hoping for a nice trip with NO issues and no blow belts...lol
I sure hope you do to Dan,you have put so much effort and money into that beautiful looking winder you have there. We are getting slammed here in maine for the last 24 hrs,up to 20 inches in some places, mostly in areas where there is no base left. My camp still had a couple feet left, but lots of snake holes opening up. Be careful out there Dan,and if you can upload some of your vids,as you make some very nice ones. Pete

I'm heading out for a rip later this aft and taking my temperatue gun along. I'm running pretty tall gearing with 192 1.625 Lake Racers. I'll take some readings from steady-state cruise as well as WFO.
Have you removed any off secondary to try for cooler temps?

Just rmoving from end of sheeve shaft on secondary, which rubs next to bearing,on jackshaft. Would be the same thing,if you had secondary jackshaft shims behind the secondary, and removed them,to get proper offset.

Cruising at 60-70mph for about 5 miles:

Primary was high 130’s, belt 130, and driven 90.

6 hard pulls with good traction:

Primary 165, belt 170, driven 110.

263 C-C, 58.5 offset (driven has been machined), 3 washers on BOP adjuster.

Going to make a few changes and test again on Sunday.

You are boosted up correct,if so 60-70 mph that is almost cold temps, but at WO them are close to mine on primary and belt, but secondary way lower. What helix and spring you running, and what wrap? If you don't mind letting us sledheads know lol..

Yes, running Hurricane 270R with a CAI. Geared 24/41, Dalton DTYA 1’s at 79.6g, Dalton green/black up front and black/orange in the driven wrapped 6-1 on stock cam.

24/41? really?

that's gotta be good for 142 or so eh?

I could see that being hard on belts trail riding with 270r.

Dan

Yeah, it's up there...!

I'm going to get this gear dialed in as well as I can and then probably try 21/37 (1.71 vs. 1.76). Ran 22/41 last winter and had it dialed in nice, but I've got a couple of pesky MCX Apexes around here to deal with and 22/41 just isn't enough gear for the kind of lake racing I do. Need to be pulling 137-138mph on hard pack snow to be in the hunt.

That gear ratio would be hard on belts trail riding.

I am sure you will have “your hands full” trying to run with those pesky Boosted Apexs. Their low height when compared to a winder, gives them an edge on top end huh. Crazy gearing that you are trying. Still running the 1.25 track? What kind of top end speed have you seen?

Yes, it would be! IMO the 22/41 is hard on belts also.

There is a reason Cat went to the lower gearing and its to keep belts on them. I'm going back to the winders stock 21/41 next time I open up the chain case on mine. I never run on glare ice or rarely have the room to run it up over 120 let alone 130 anyway.

Gearing up in my case was a waste and put more stress and heat on the belt. Its just a trail sled!

I said this to many before... When the 22 gear frenzy started... Unless you spend time North of 125 regularly and do little trail riding....imho stock or if anything go the other way...

I just got back from a north Ontario trip. Put on 740 miles with no belt blown. Plenty of time spent at 100 mph plus. (that run from Cochrane to Timmins, and the Abitibi Canyon is like the autobahn for sleds) Was running 22/41, stock springs, Dalton weights, powertrail with stock muffler.

So guys, real quickly while sled is in trailer. Grabbed a straight edge on back of primary then measured to outside of secondary. Both clutches still on sled with factory shim in secondary. I measured......

2 15/32" which equates to 62.7mm.

Does that sound about right? I'm going to double check my findings. But if I remove 3mm from the back of secondary that would put me at 59.7mm with shim in place.

Is that what we are trying to achieve?

Thank you........joe
