Nyper build thread

Awesome job! You do great work. Looking forward to seeing this on the snow this year.

Finally got the running board traction done, a job I was not looking forward too and also putting off. Multiple years ago I had cut the shanks off the screws with the plan to just tack weld the heads. Fast forward to tonight and I thought about how long it would take to get each screw positioned and tack welded and I said screw it(no pun) and drilled holes, threaded screws in and then fused them, all 44 of them, took me awhile but it’s done.

Old plan vs new, heavier but way faster to complete.

Holes drilled and screws all turned the same way ready to weld, 22 on each side.

Done. Took about 3 hours to fuse them all moving side to side and letting the boards cool.

Just have a few things left on my list and it’s ready to sandblast. Mostly need to inspect all the welds and touch up any bad ones and then maybe reinforce the rear motor mounts, undecided right now.

Nice job bud that should keep your feet planted, I can’t wait to see it all painted it’s going to look sweet, kudos to you as you have come along way on a previously abandoned project & im really glad your back working on it!!

The paint won’t be anything fancy as I have more welding to do on the frame. Gas tank tabs, cooler tabs, oil tank tabs, body panel tabs ect. I’m just going to spray it with an aerosol primer for now so it doesn’t rust out on me. Eventually down the road when it’s finished I’ll spray it with a light colored top coat so any cracks that develop will be visible.

I got the frame wrapped up for now, it weighs 35.40 lbs so far.

Dropping it off tomorrow morning at the powder coat shop so they can blast it for me. Should be done sometime next week.

Now I need to figure out what primer to use. I’ve used the self etching stuff before and it works decent. I bought a light colored one and sprayed them both a few days ago to do a scratch test. Going to keep looking at other options.

Powdercoat shop did an awesome job sandblasting the frame. Got it home and sand blown off. Cranked the heat up in my shop to 75 for about 4 hours and then started priming. The green self etching can did way better on the finger nail scratch test compared to the white primer and it sprays nicer so that’s what I used. I’ll post a pic when it’s fully dry. Used 4 cans but being its aerosol I think at least half of it ended up on the floor and all the plastic I hung.

A project like this reminds me of our trip to Florida from Ontario in 2012. I thought driving the trip straight through would be fun, After doing it once I don’t know if I could ever work up to driving it again.

Looks awesome, glad its primered so it doesn't rust on ya again.

Unrelated - We are thinking of flying into AK this summer, any must do's between Anchorage and Denali park we shouldn't miss?
