Nytro Freeride build (2013 build page 27)

136

 Q for ya re the 136 tipped rail set up.

Did you find the tipped rail feature of the OFT ext noticeable?

I know you went to 136 from 121 so it wasn't an apples/apples comparison but I am curious how the tipped rail feature affected handling?

I have always felt tipped rails are a good idea regardless of length to get a rocker effect when the sled is transferring both on accelaration and off throttling.
Does ICE AGE offer tipped rails as an option?

I am new to my Nytro coming off 30 yrs of Polaris and am just starting my trip down the Nytro rabbit hole with a new 2013 FX. Gonna run the oem Rip2 studded this season but will be looking to 128 or 136 next yr.
Want to assess if it'll be 128 relocated or 136 tipped rail ext either relocated or not??

I unfortunately don't get much off trail or loose snow riding locally but do get away for a couple trips where this can happen. For this reason I won't be going any longer than 128~136.
I like transfer and a lively sled so the oem approach angle doesn't bother me unless slide wear and really poor top end rear their head.
I can't see why I won't want tipped rails regardless of what length and approach I use tho??

Very Kewl sled BTW Revster :-o Yer a kindred spirit with yer attn to detail, OCD and overall gearhead mindset and the writeup was a lot of fun to absorb ;)! Representing CDN sledder's well

Thanks dude ;)!

About the 136 tip up, some of the advantages of the tip up may have been lost on my sled as a result of the 1.75" lugs. At the rear of my track the lugs would always still be touching snow where as the 1.25" tracks might have lugs that clear the snow.

But regardless the Nytro works very well as a 136". (I'm sure 128 works well too) The extra track seems to harness that low end torque the Nytros have.

I have not been on any tight twisty trails so far this year, that might have to wait for the TY ride, but so far I'm loving the 144!!

Good luck with your decision :sled1:

Well my sled has done nothing but collect dust then pull the kids around. As much as I enjoy it I think I'm going to part with it. We are headed to West Yellowstone March 8th and when I return I am going to sell the Nytro. I'm thinking I will put it back to stock and sell the sled that way then sell off the aftermarket parts separate. So If you're planning a summer build I'll likely have some great parts at reasonable prices soon.

WOW...After all that work, back too stock and sell it

Your a TRUE SLED HEAD....lol

What's in store next??? :sled1:

Might just be the 4 year itch hehehe. This is season 4 with this sled and 4 seasons is the longest I've kept a sled.

Right now I'm just thinking I need to down grade since I'm not using it.

I can sympathize with a sled collecting dust. Was close to selling my old Viper one season. Only put over 200 miles pulling the kids or giving them rides in the open field accross the road. Was the worst snow/trail conditions I had seen in years. To add to it both my boys were in minor hockey which meant I was on the ice with them 4 times a week and atleast 2 games every weekend. This left little time to ride on the snow/trails that we did have.
Wife convinced not to sell it as it was paid for and did not cost much to keep it around. Boy, was she wrong! The next year the boys dropped out of minor hockey and went into Rec. hockey which meant on the ice for 2 hours every Sat am and it snowed like crazy and the trails were amazing. Ended up spending over $2k on modding the Viper and doing atleast 2k miles every season since.

I would not go back i time and do anything differnet even if I could . Time spent teaching my kids the game of hockey or seeing their smiling faces after sleds rides with them are absolutely priceless memories for all of us.

Yeah that's pretty much bang on to my story right now, except I have girls. Even though I missed another ride today due to a sick kid and I can't make the TY ride tomorrow because of work, for some reason I think I might hang in there as you did. Well leaving for the Mountains March 8 so I'll probably know what I'm doing after that trip.

Just got back from West Yellowstone. The Nytro ran great and the 144 Ice age rails are awesome.

Snow was pretty set up in the higher sun exposed areas. But great place for pics....

But down below there were plenty of places to get in trouble. I only got stuck twice and this was one of them. You can see the impact of the sled in the snow.

Having fun in the trees...

Timbersled was there for the Expo and I got to take a Mountain Horse for a ride. I loved it...

Nice pictures!! I feel winded just looking at them lol

That sno bike looks like a blast! :sled1:

Yeah that snow bike was very cool. It felt weird riding one down the trail. It would be cool to have one but I think it would be way to cold for Manitoba winters. ....and they are not cheap.

Well the sled has not gone back to stock and is not for sale. Keeping it. So plans for the offseason include a new track, and hopefully that will be it.

So the Nytro will be setting a new record for length of time I have owned one sled, beating my Ski-Doo XRS I had for 4 seasons.

Well after planning to keep my Nytro for this past winter, I made an impulse purchase and bought a 2010 Ski-doo MXZ-X 600 RS. (Factory Race Sled). Loved my Nytro but needed to make a change. So the performance parts were removed and sold and the sled was sold. So this concludes this build. Thanks to all who helped me a long the way!!

I did manage to have some fun on the race sled.....
