Pilot 6.9 ski's installed

I'm a fan of stud-boy 6" shaper bars for the center carbide and some 4" bars on the outside.

I was installing my Pilots last night. I trimmed the 2" off the backside of the rubber. However, could not get the bolt through. I even warmed the rubbed a while. I got the bolt in the outside and with the sled on the ground, still needed like a 1/4" on the inside. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I've had luck just lowering the sled on the ski putting all the sled weight on the rubber then tapping the bolt through. Just installed Mohawks on our Viper and lined right up and some light tapping the bolt went right through. No chance without clamping and I don't like scratching up the paint. Make sure everything is in line before and as you lower. Nothing like some sled weight to compress the rubber.

Is there anyone around Michigan that I can pay to install
This set up on my winder ?

Not the best mechanical guy. Lol. I can make the easiest project a mess.
RockerDan where u live ? I’ll come to you. Lol
Anyone ?

Ready now!! I tried curves on my viper turbo way to heavy steering. Then I just tried new c&a. Xpt s this weekend. The steering is just too heavy. I have preload backed off to nothing and still heavy steer. Can’t stand it. Love this sled but I must fix steering . I’m
Ready now!!

I wish I was closer I would gladly install them for you. They can be a bitch if not familiar with it.

I would also have you check the upper steering post clamp/bushing. Some of these sleds got over tightened there and that can heavy up the steering immensely. To check that, simply get the front up off ground and turn bars full left to right, they should be very free feeling. If they feel heavy at all, then that upper steering post clamp is too tight.

For the skis, throw the rubbers in very hot bucket of water right before install, it helps a ton.

Tip the ski in a little to get the bolt started from the outside and tap it in a couple inches then lift the ski up and put a 2x4 on its side so the 4” is up and put that under the inside of the ski and let the sled down. That should line it up very close. Don’t forget to trim the rubbers

Not sure if you saw, but I offer a bolt on kit that drastically reduces steering effort. I can steer my sidewinder with curves effortlessly!

Has anyone tried the Skidoo Pilot TS adjustable runner skis? Wonder how they would work out.

Not sure if they'd work on the Cat spindle. I've never run them, but I think the adjuster has to bolt up to the special Doo spindle.
I have a couple buddies that have the TS and are not that thrilled with them.

Yeah I think you are correct. I viewed a couple pics online and looks like the adjuster bolts to the spindal.

I’m actually surprised that everyone is finding the pilots work so well. Back in my Apex days people put pilots on to eliminate darting with the one draw back that they pushed bad in corners especially in loose snow. Now it seems people are putting them on winders to eliminate the push. I guess skis react differently on different chassis.

Threeman03, I have Curves on my LTX LE and I have posted before that I Didnt have the Curve rubbers and was using stock rubbers and steering was great. Light and easy. Got the rubbers from Curve finally and decided to put them on and went out and tried sled and couldnt steer the damn thing! Went right back in garage changed back to stock rubbers went back out on same trails and it was like I had power steering. My friend with powersteering Apex loves it. I also should add that Cody from Curve recommended round host bar for carbides. I am running their 6" carbides and obviously love them. I am studded also. So, dont sell the Curves short. This was my experience and in know way am I any expert!

Rode on the 5.7's this weekend. Because Snow was loose sled tracked very well. So I don't have a definitive answer as to the high speed darting I was experiencing with the tuners.

Don and I were disgussing this(my dealer-Doo/Cat/YAM) and he was contemplating a mod to the spindle of some sort to make this install happen.

But after I went to the pilot 6.9, he pulled off his c&a skis and went pilot 6.9 too. LOL

I only was able to do a short few mile initial test ride on my new 18 over weekend, but man o man these skis, and sled is a blast to ride. The sit to stand up position and the MT seat I have on is simply perfect in ergos IMO. With my XS doo the seat was too low, the weight felt too nose heavy(compared to the SW) and I had to install an adj riser to get the bar height better for stand up, but the sit to stand movement on XS sucked bad, but on this winder its all really nice overall. Also flying around in some deeper powder the nose gets real playful easily and you can really play on this sled standing up like the guys do on all those mt vids...Its impossible for me to believe this is a heavier sled then my 4tec, as it feels MUCH lighter when playing.

6.9s are flawless and just make for "power steering feel" IMO, when compared to the XS doo of the last 2 seasons.

Man its gonna be a fun season!

Dan

Hey Dan!

I’m wondering about the forward bias of the pilots. Check out how my carbides wore last year. seems they should be shimmed to get the ski to sit more flat, wouldn’t you think?? They almost worse through the front half. 1700miles
