Replacement Idler Wheel Results & Hints

No machining necessary. Your 1.5mm offest statemetn is correct but poses no problems.

The combination that I went with and posted pictures of earlier in this message thread has worked perfectly with NO damage to the wheels or track. I run studs, too.
[/quote] Good because I ordered a set for the outside wheels, The inside idler's a changed to a black wheel with the 6205 bearing , I hope this solves the wheel problem. THANKS

My dealer put on a set of the new 06 style inner front idler wheels recently. They lasted less than 100km, all the rubber peeled off and the wheels deformed.

I will try a set of the accessory wheels as suggested here and let you know how I make out.

I take it this must be a problem on the Vector's. I have a 05 Rage with 2800 miles on it and not a single problem. Most people say I drive like a mad man. I do see that way to many people drive with a way to tight track. I run mine as loose as I can, just so it don't rachet. I picked up 4-5 miles an hour top end by running it loose. Also just replaced the hyfax. I think they would of gone anouther 500 miles easy. But had the time to kill and it realy only takes about 1/2 of an hour. I'm glad I don't have the 06 Rage suppension. Lots of problems from what I hear. :moon:

:die

I have 6 early production 06 wheels for sale if anyone needs them.

These are brand new, never used. I'd prefer to sell them as a set.

A buddy of mine also has a set of early production 06 wheels with about 700 kms on them. They're in perfect condition still (but I don't know if he wants to sell them or keep them for backup).

Of course my advice to you is to replace the 05/06 wheels with the more durable 03/04 wheels (some machining required for some wheel locations).

I replaced the front inner wheels with the ones as per garserio's original post, for the Vector these are bolt in.

I put ~650km on them this week and they are holding up well.

being the Yamaha's replacement accessory wheels were back ordered, here is what I used part number 8cr-47311-00 Thes are black wheel with the bigger bearing. will bolt on outside with a longer bolt , as with the accessory wheels :exc:

I got them to install the accessory wheels under warranty - parts and labor. This is on an 05 Venture. I understand that the factory will install the additional wheel kits under warranty also but only on the 06. They think that the 4 extra wheels will slow the hyfax wear. I am going to try to get them to do it for my 05.
Push your dealer a bit and you'll get them to do this on Yamaha's dime. The factory is very aware of the problems.

My dealer is still waiting to here back from Yamaha

My Apex idlers were showing signs of wear at 425 miles. Checked my wife's 2006 Vector idlers still looked ok. Dealer is replacing mine now. The wife is not a very aggressive rider. Top speed around 60 mph for her for brack in. The snow conditions were not the best . I had been running up the speed for short burst on mine (70 -80mph). Maybe riding style and snow conditiions play a role in life span of defective idlers.
