Should i buy a Sidewinder?

I live in Bangor, but have a camp on Cross Lake near Fort Kent. I keep my sleds at camp, so i dont have to trailer but twice a year. I just bought a phazer for my oldest son and my wife has an ACE900 so i'm used to the 4 stroke goodness. I dont need the fastest machine, but want at least 800 / 850 class power with minimal weight to have to wrestle around. I was considering the new Ace Turbo, but I'm affarid it might not be quite enough. For the same price and can land a Sidewinder. Seems like its the way to go.

Whoa,,, Yes big trails for sure. That is 4 stroke region. Wanted the ACE900 or 2011 and up Vector for my wife, but then a back operation came along for her!
I have owned 3 phazers, maybe more, I loose count. That fan cooled engine 488 2 stroke is very reliable.
On the county trails the Sidewinders weight does not show itself, in fact, that is where it shines. You want something stable on those High Speed trails.
The DX model has cheaper shocks then the SE, or the BEST LE. I do not think the DX shocks are rebuildable!

Do some research through the search feature under this Sidewinder section. Hours of reading if not days or weeks....

I have the curremt 4 stroke phaser, great little motor. My wife loves her 900Ace, will keep it for our youngest son once he is old enough to ride on the trail. Good note on the DX shocks, might have to reconsider that particular model.

No that's Steve subtle way of trying to sell you his sled without anyone else knowing hes not suppose to sell units in the main forums.

lol actually no...

he said moving the heavy sled around his garage and trailer....showing my ski wheels....thereby his problem solved...

wasn't even thinking about the selling angle...but sure...everything I have is for sale

Hi ...

My name is Steve

I own a Sidewinder...

I felt the same as the original posters concerns...

So I added a set of rollerski wheels to my sled...

I feel this solves the original posters concerns of weight in garage and trailer loading etc...

Seriously....miles of smiles with these sleds...if you like the thought of never ending pull and a smooth hi tech motor...this is it!

Hi Steve and welcome to the site! LOL

I was trying to figure out the weight of a Sidewinder and I can't find it on Yamaha sites.. I wanted to compare the weight to my 2006 Yamaha Attack .. I bought a 2014 Skidoo Renegade because it is lighter .. I don't ride in the Mountains so Turbo is no necessary .. Yet people have claimed the new Sidewinder is a lot lighter than the older Yamaha's ??

Also some one said the new Sidewinder goes 122 MPH my 2006 Attack goes 129 MPH on Dreamometer which is 116 on GPS
I have a 07 Attack I bought new and rode for a few years, its still sitting in garage and there is no stock Attack that will hold a candle to any Sidewinder!! also The weight difference is huge.

It's definitely the heaviest pig I've had between my legs. But she carries it extremely well.

If I was going to rage the tight Twisties all day. I'd prefer something else. With that said, it's a beast. Very fun overall.

How do you compare durability to a questionable 850 & 900t which isn't out yet? It's kinda unfair. In favor of the 998t, Imho......

Honestly......that's some pretty good company. Take your pick. Right or no?

I couldn't pull the the trigger on the sidewinder this weekend. I seem to be living a fantasy that a 2 stoke 850 will be more overall fun. Still undecided....

Really comes down to 2 stroke vs 4 stroke. Both amazing sleds. Winder handles better than expected

Well,.I'll tell you...I was skeptical, but after today's local ride, through big fields, mudholes, beat down tight woods, I'm sold....it's a helluva sled...my son in law took it the last 2o miles back and is blown away...I told him it feels a little heavy steering, but will go where you want, flat and at stupid frigging speeds....it is just a blast....once dialed the cat chassis is damn good....one secton was deep moguls and a few water holes, g outs, and just horrible, and a group of doobies, and poos ran it and pulled over...I was merciless on it as this might be near the end and figured whatever breaks can get fixed this summer....wow.... never bottomed once and I hit a few hard that felt like you can break a sled in half....maybe the front arm came close, but confidence inspiring??? Felt like I was 30 years younger....I told my son in law, I always laughed so hard on the apex, wondering how it didn't bust in half, but was at the limit for sure...this sw honestly feels like it's wanting more....a better sled than me. BEAT ME MORE! The weight keeps it flat and stable, and it's built like a brick s..house! The triangulated steel tubing frame makes this thing so solid over garbage....just a great sled, and fast as hell!! Can't ask for more..it's beyond my abilities.
Buy the sidewinder and kiss those punkass 2 strokes goodbye!LOL.

my wife if ready to kill me on this, I keep going round and round on this decision. I've bought two four strokes for my wife and kids and like the easy nature and torque. However lifting and moving those around are getting old and adding something even heavier to the stable make me take pause. I suspect i'm being overly dramatic on the weight difference and probably wouldn't notice 95% of the time.

You'll be dam glad you had a substantial machine like the sw under you hitting a drift at 90....believe me!!! It flies flat...I've jumped roadbanks that used to toss me off my mxz!!
Runs good on low sulfur diesel..lol!
