Secondary spring rate???? I think this might be primary rates, Fleecer! Also, why did Dalton change the black orange secondary? I have the old, what is the difference to new and why?
My apologies, your right, I was referring to primary tension.
Secondary orange is 13kg/55kg

A few of the old springs broke, so Dalton Industries replaced them free of charge for the updated spring. At the time, Dale advised, the new spring needed 10 more degrees of wrap to match the tension of the old one.

It would run 8900_9000rpm still running the 35/39 helix only thing it seems to keep engaged when coming to a stop and not much engine braking what rpm does the yellow run at?does it have decent engine braking? What rpm were you turning at 6-2 with the pink?
Are you still running stock 35/39? I think the Yamaha yellow secondary works better with that reverse cam. Stiffer at full shift to keep rpm up when it hits the 39. JMO....

I've never run the yellow with 35/39, nor without a tune, so cant answer where the rpms will bring you. It should provide same rpm with less tension.
I'd be curiuos to see your GPS numbers with yellow at 3-2 or 3-3 compared to pink at 6-2???

Justinator, what do you have your offset at?Your xtx is an 2018 according to your signature so it has a 35 degree helix and yellow spring wrapped at 3-3 from the factory. If you run the xs825 belt your stock secondary will be perfectly fine as is. The yellow spring should not coil bind at 3-3 and lower wrap. The stock primary spring is quite long and there is better choices. if you prefer a low engagement setup there are a few springs I know of that will work great. The dalton bronze, the yamaha blue-brown-blue, yamaha blue-white-blue, yamaha white-green-white, yamaha yellow-silver-yellow are all good choices that will give you engagements in the 2800-3300rpm range depending on your weight setup. If you prefer a higher engaging setup there are other choices of course but I dont know those off the top of my head. If your daltons are the qay-70 youll be 71-73 gram range at 270hp depending on what you choose to target for max rpm. I have just shy of 2500 miles using these components at 270hp. Ran all those miles on same belt and it looks great. No heat and no dust. There are more aggressive, possibly?? better performing setups out there but this is a simple solid setup that runs consistent rpms everyday in a variety of different snow conditions, gives good fuel mileage and bestof all it is a "set it and forget it" setup that isnt sensitive to changing snow and trail conditions. The xs825 belt does not need big springs and big wraps on secondary clutch with the 35 helix. I ran the stock yellow spring at a lower wrap (2-3) and it worked just fine and even slightly reduced average belt temps according to my razorback belt temp gauge. I prefered the backshift and over all feel on 3-3 setting. Now keep in mind that everything I just wrote is for the xs825 belt. if you insist or prefer to use the 8JP belt then nothing I mentioned will work for you.

So Fleece your testing has you faster with the stock yellow sec spring? Interesting, I'll have to clean the dust off it and give it a try.Clutch,
Thanks for sharing, evidently the belt heat must be from slippage. At any rate, Yamaha yellow secondary at 60 is faster than b/o at 60 or 70.
The extra tension at fullshiift when using the yellow yields more rpm and faster speeds. With the b/o I cant even break into the 140s, hence it now sits in the toolbox. Just my opinion....
But now Justinator has really got me thinking. I could never get that pink to work in anything and have been throwing it in the trash for years. I can certainly use an extra 4 mph.![]()

Even with power turned up?Yes, Dalton blk/org has slightly less torsion tension, but more side pressure. A must have, if running 8dn/8jp belt.
I've been running Ultimax XS825 belt, which has much better grip than the 8jp. Hence, additional side pressure not needed. I've had cooler clutches and better luck with stock yellow secondary spring IF using Ultimax belt. JMI....

Even with power turned up?
I've never ridden a stock winder, only tuned ones.
As this post is over 5 years old, I've had a change of heart.
In my constant struggle to consistently look for better/faster, I no longer use the stock black yellow secondary spring. I've since moved to the Dalton Black/Tan set at 3-3. I have found this spring/setting yields better belt temps and higher top speeds........but just my opinion..
