Friend with a new SW.

First ride 35 miles both adjuster nuts, the whole assembly blows out, gone from rails entirely. Track is full loose and sled barely rideable.

Dealer fixes it.

Second ride about 40 miles in, one side blows out. Continued to ride the sled gently for another 40 miles.

Anybody else having this problem?

The whole thing is gone from the rails when I say blow out. All that’s left is a hole in the rail where the assembly used to be.

Axle nuts were not torqued after alignment & tension was set.
Adjusting bolts were not torqued after the axle bolts were tightened.
If both axle nuts were torqued to 35ftlbs, how can the track loosen up?
Time to have a little sit down with the dealer & mechanic.

The piece in the rail that the adjuster bolt threads through popped out. So the whole assembly lost on the trail.

The adjuster bolts don't have a lock nut on them. After you make your adjustments you need to tighten the rear axle bolts. After your axle bolts are tightened you then need to tighten the adjuster bolt against the axle. If you don't tighten the adjuster bolts they can back out completely.

We need pictures.

Yea we understand that the axle and and adjusters need to be tightened and the jam nuts tightened. They were and by the dealer fixed it after the first incident. Don’t have pictures but imagine that all that is there is the rails and axle. Adjuster bolt, jam nut, and the block in the slide all gone. First time it happened we were like yea they never tightened the axle or jam nut and it rattled itself apart.

Im pretty sure these have nylock nuts on adjusters, like doos have.

I hope so cause I have always adjusted mine same as the doo..lol

Just had to tighten my track which was tight! Only 300 miles and I went 15 ratchets per bolt, lots of stretch in 300 miles for sure.

This winder has a total of 2 rides. 35 miles first ride. Dealer fixed. Then 80 miles second ride.

What model is your sidewinder I got a stx-dx 146 and it happened to me twice as well. Did you find a solution to the problem??

Yamaha agreed to pay for an aftermarket rear axle which also eliminated the tri hub. Not sure if he’s ridden it yet since.

It does show lock nuts in the parts list but there are no lock nuts on my sleds adjuster bolts.

Hey Joe,

There is locknuts in the adjuster that goes into the rail. See pic. This is why no extra jam nut is needed like in the Old Days.

OK Don I see it now. When I think of a lock nut I think of a nut you need to loosen before making an adjustment then tighten after. This is just a nyloc nut that the adjuster bolt goes through right?

Yes just a nylock lock nut.
Once Rear axle is torqued to proper specs There should be no strain on these adjusters. Hell you could take them off if you wanted. These adjusters are there to align and tighten track prior to the axle tightened. they are not there to keep tension on the track. With all the Cat's and Yami's we sell I have only seen one of these adjusters fail.
Something not right or Not tightened Properly from the guy in this post.
