Trying The 8DN BELT

Mine is stock primary everything, secondary is pink spring set at 6-1 with a 45/39 helix.

Mine lowered rpm but was pulling the skis. My take on this is that the belt is not slipping anymore which makes the motor work harder, thus dropping rpms.

Our trails are shot here so I guess I will trailer somewhere to test. Don't know when or where... $#@%

Your dropping rpm because the belt is not slipping. The slipping belt was higher rpm, for that reason. Of course none of us should be having this problem, but we are. Now that you have belt that doesn't slip you might have to take some weight out. Yamaha will have to address this problem soon as well. I think they made clutch adjustments on the 2015's. Well we just got pounded with snow and my sled is in the shop. So I'll trade ya...lol

LOL

Yup, agree with ya on the "no more slipping"

Here is some more research..... Back when I started running sleds down the track, I tried all kinds of belts and found the 8DN to be the best hook up, longest lasting out there. I tried a Dayco Ultimax and had nothing but problems. In fact, the sheaves were getting hot and real wavvy. When I took the belt off, it felt like a wire brush on the sides because the fibers were burnt. I never had that with the 8DN. Now go back and look at cannondale27's post with all the belts.....guess who makes the 8CJ belt? I'll save you time.....Dayco. Who makes the 8DN? - Mitsuboshi

I can see this clutching thing coming around now and what I want to do. Tell me if this makes sense......

Install overdrive sheave on primary, use 8DN belt and install 1 tooth smaller gear on bottom in chain case. Why you may ask? Here it is. Because the 8DN belt is longer but thicker, it rides just over the secondary sheaves which will put you in a lower starting gear ratio. Thinking this might be the time to change the bottom gear to one smaller hoping for better top end charge and mph.

That could work, thanks for the info on the maker...

I had overdrive on mine at first and thought that was the cause of me breaking belts. But after I took them off I still broke belts. So not sure if the sheeves help the matter or not. Didn't try them with the 8DN though. Maybe a thought?? If I ever get it back :o|

I would have to think it would make it better with the overdrive sheave.

No problem....just want to see all these vipers kicking some tail on the trail!

Oh I agree!! I might try them again! Once I get the clutching set good. Then check out my top speed and go from there! I hit good speeds right now. I'm only 300 rpm's shy so still in power and though! I might just leave it to. Maybe safer.

The overdrive sheave is a band aid fix and not the proper way to achieve over drive. You also must have your secondary setup properly to allow the belt to get to the top of the primary as well, which won't happen with a stock secondary.

PM me or post with what needs to be done to the secondary. I have the sheave on my srx asphalt sled with a stock secondary working good....

Allen told me we will be running the 8DN and go from there! He has a set up for me. Just waiting to get my sled back.

Ok, you have already bean warned once by an admin for the insults, "you have no clue" isn't going to help. I know its the internet and anybody can post anything but please, do some research? And as nobody wishes to see pointless internet spats that have no substance, you are officially on my ignore list.

Thanks!
:jump:

Man I think everyone feels like I did this morning...we all have our options and me and a lot of others choose to use the 8DN and it works for us! Should be no arguement here. I mean it just flat out worked. Can't really explain why, or why not. But I'm not going through belts anymore! And that makes me happy.
