The sled went into the dealer. He was of the opinion the turbo is on its way out.
I have 2 friends with 17’s and their turbos make absolutely no noise on shut down. You have to listen hard to hear it spinning down. Based on that I feared the worse.
Dealer was back and forth with Yamaha and a new turbo was sent and installed. I hate to say it but even this turbo makes the same whine - albeit quieter than the last but it is still there. Going to run it next week and see what happens.
Wish someone who knew more about turbos could comment on this stuff. Would love to see the old one apart.

I have heard some ball bearing turbos on cars and trucks make this noise. Like I said all the winders in our group make this noise even a 19. It is not loud but it is there. I too wish a knowledgeable turbo guy would chime in. I am going to my dealer this weekend to see what he says. The sled went into the dealer. He was of the opinion the turbo is on its way out.

I sent my video to 2 different companys that rebuild. Both said same thing. Done, bad, not normal and they couldnt repair.

Guys type of oil means nothing quality clean oil means everything along with letting the sled idle for a minute before you shut it down. The situation about the turbos not being able to be rebuilt matters on the shape of the turbo to start with in most cases these smaller turbos usually Motorsports and automotive take such abuse that the bearing hsg. And turbine are junk. I have two 17 BTX myself I have ordered a IHI turbo myself I’m a IHI distributor I could sell these turbos for 1175.00. The kicker is IHI doesn’t stock it and it is a 3-4 month lead time. So if you would want one their it is. Guys I can’t stress enough to let these engines idle before you shut it down. You want to stabile the oil temp before you shut it down. As soon as you shut it down you lose the cooling affect by the circulation of the oil.

How long is a little bit? 5 min, 2 min, 10 min

I usually try for a min. We get in a hurry. You also have to be concerned about water temp. Idling to long will rise that. All your trying to do is stabilize the oil temp. Once the engine is shut down the oil stops circulateing and the temp will start to rise before in comes down.

Thank you for clarifying.

It all depends on how hard you were running the machine before you stop. If your not really getting into boost hard 30 seconds is fine. If you just made a pull across the lake minimum one minute, more is better. Don’t worry a whole lot about coolant temp, your stopping anyhow, it will cool down. How long is a little bit? 5 min, 2 min, 10 min

How would you know if someone is more or less, a turbo expert?
I’ve rebuilt around 20 turbos of all makes, journal and Ball Bearing.
I have good knowledge and experience.
Not sure what more you want?
I can tell you with absolute confidence the bearings are gone on that turbo, no doubt.
It will eventually get wheel rub and destroy itself.

Idleing more is better. I have been in the turbo business all my life worked full time from 18 and now I’m 51 I have dealt with just about everyone that has made kits for these machines.
