Update from "ttabs Nytro mod shop"

most people are just creating the longer line with loops in it...

They have it going to the air box because of a need for negative air pressure...Yamaha needs to step up and solve the problem, they can have a simple check valve made to do this, this is not the first gravity fed oil system in the world....

Yep I agree, Yamaha needs to address this. Keep up the good ideas guys I know we can figure something out. I cant wait to order my turbo.

Suffering from .... excessive Hyfax wear?!?

After my first tank of gas and going over a general inspection, I noticed that the hyfaxes were GONE right there by the front bend in the rails. The dealer says that it's not a warranty issue?!?

Check this out when I pulled them off .....

Hmmmm .... looks shot to me.

First thing was to pre-drill my new skids with 1/4" holes and I placed them in the areas of excessive wear ....

680P4240008.jpg

The theory here is that snow will collect in the holes and then proceed to melt down (and therefore lubricate the plastic) when things heat up on the trail. This trick has worked for me on other makes.

Here's another "heads up". I have to say that re-installing new plastic was a chore. Man do they fit squeaky tight. I used regular axle grease not only on the plastic, but also on the rails to help these things slide on better. Still, there was a lot of coaxing with a rubber mallet to get them on.

Glad to see the driver windows on the track were wider than the hyfaxes for the removal/reinstall. I cut one of the worn skids to use as a punch for the final 3" .....

.

AND NOW, FOR THE FIX. I stuck a 6x6 piece of timber under the front suspension and lowered the weight of the sled down on it. This compressed the limiter straps. I undid the top nuts on the straps and took up two holes worth of slack to help bring up the front of the skid about an inch or so.

Also, I backed the track tension-er bolts off about 4 turns each. When I pick up the back end of the sled, I like to see at least 1" of sag in the middle of the rails as adequate track tension.

THE RESULT .... two tanks of gas later and the hyfaxes still look like new. I wonder if the dealers are aware of this issue. If you've got excessive wear on your skids, this adjustment will help .... a lot!

This will do for now, but I've got plans for a whole new rear suspension install this summer!

How about your riser setup? It's a simple mod, but I've been looking to change mine up and don't like the PowerMadd risers I picked up....

Well, MT scored on this pair of risers from ROX and I had them on before my first ride. I'm 6'2" and definitely need a 2" lift on the bars. It also helps shift them forward too which for me is a big plus.

Simple bolt on device that helps offset that steering axle. As for the control, the steering feels perfectly natural to me ...

Do you have any closer pics of where the oil line is that leaks when tipped on the right side. How about a check valve type of set up like maybe a pcv valve on a car engine. Something like that.

I spoke with a mechanic about my filter idea and was warned NOT to do it. Fluctuations in that breather line cannot be impaired in any way or you'll risk blowing an engine. That's why that line is as big as it is - to let it breath!

So, forget about my first post with the filter idea. I've now decided to re-route the oil line in this configuration.

If the sled tips up to 90 degrees on either side, the oil will remain in the tank. If I roll it over, oil will equalize in the tube and then perhaps a small amount will drain out of the end (which dumps out below my right footwell). In either case, oil will drain completely out of the tube once the sled's back on its skis- keeping that line free and clear.

BTW - you can do this mod to a stock sled as well as to a tubo. Check out sledMontana's post on his experience ....
That's my best solution so far fellas. :whine: Looks like I'll still be packin' oil with me when I ride.

How about running boards? Going for Better Boards?...

obr - wait till you see MTdreams snow eliminators. I'll be doing the same to my sled this summer. It'll end all your running board issues on the spot. The install will take a few beers to accomplish though.

If ya simply can't wait for my install, you can check them out here ....

Woooo Wee!!!! Them are lookin' good!

BTW fellas - I wanted to comment on the sway bar removal.

I absolutely luv how this sled handles in the deep stuff now. Stock shocks do me just fine with this mod. I've got the springs compressed down to within 1/2" of the bottom of the shock threads.

I don't feel like I'm riding a heavy sled at all! It simply turns on a dime. Wide open throttle going up a hill and - because of the snow conditions - there was no need to let off the gas. I'd simply throw it over and carve through the deep stuff and be headed back down. I was pullin' that stunt all day long!

My sway bar's gone for good! ;)!

That's not Snow eleminators, that's better boards from F-bomb... Just the ones I'm talking about...They are the best thing since sliced bread.... :bling

I agree OBR, WAY WAY better than my Snow eliminators that were on my Rev pic below

LeftPowdercoat2Medium.jpg

I like the Better boards because of the height of the tunnel side...WAY more support for boards with heavier guys, and they look like mountains...:)

but the bling factor is off the charts when comparing...

Here is comparison of two sleds...and the boards from side pics...

And :bling :bling

granted the rev tunnel is polished to a mirror, but that is a summer project, and with the Mothers Billet, and the Mothers Ball it is a simple project...

oh, and just for teh drool factor, here is where Ttabs and TGZ Tsunami and myself will be playing in the powder...yes powder in APRIL!!!!!!!!!!

There was 3 feet of fresh in Cooke City last weekend. Where do you ride/live, MTdream?

these pics are in Taylros Fork looking into Cabin Creek...

We had 3 feet of fresh up here in Kalispell too (in the hills)

Mt and TTabs, Good catch on the service manual. There's some fun reading!

T- Nice job on the hyfax. I was wondering why they ran the tracks so tight. Aren't they extro drivers? We should be able to run them fairly loose. :dunno:
