When ever there are issues like these for some reason the telephone idiots are either clueless and misinformed or required to respond that way as a first line of defense. I was in the dealer last week and they sold 14 turboed 2016 Vipers. They were building one while I was there and asked if I wanted to see it. Often when I speak to them they'll roll their eyes and say "You can't believe everything you read on the internet." Well in this case they knew of the rod issue and didn't give the pat answer. They were told and believe the motor can take the kit - they were installing the 15th unit, but didn't think the motor would stand over 190-200 hp.

What a Motor company, if I were AC I would run.Turbo not compatible with 2016 models what a joke. Hope you guys are enjoying your Vipers. I am sorry you guys spent over $20,000 and ended up with problems.

I've dealt with issues like this with other manufacturers before. The people you talk to on the phone are idiots that only know and/or only allowed to tell you what is on the screen in front of them. Until the actual "fix" is hitting the dealers the customer support people won't have any info.
several years ago in a fit of drunken rage I bought a Polaris 2 smoke 800 case I was having so many problems with my rx's carbs gunking up. The first one (2011) was fine. then I bought a leftover 2012 Pro r and it blew up at 800 miles on the second trip to the Up. When I called them (Polaris) from the UP they rep on the phone asked what did you do to it? I said I rode it! well we have not had any problems reported with the motors. I ran into town and bought another (2013) one to finish the week long trip. The next week when I dropped it (2012) off at the dealer they had 4 more sitting in the shop for same deal. It took them 3 weeks to do all the testing of the fuel, check the oil I was using and then they finally agreed to fix it. They rebuilt the 2012 and I sold it without ever riding it. My buddy rode my 13 and loved it so he bought a 13 and it blew up the first weekend out with only 200 miles on it.

I know don't feed the trolls but I have to this time. RX1 bad piston rings comes to mind first but the list is rather long. I suspect you to be another jealous snowmobiler, break down and buy a Viper and join us.

Actually the problem was with poor break in by owners. I did not have the ring issue or the w arm breaking or the hyfax wear. As far as being jealous, you make me laugh.☺ Thanks I needed that.

Man this thread is full of over re-action's. The Viper is not " full of problems" They have a rod strength issue in some new motors. How many? Who knows. It could be a bad batch of rods. More than likely they can trace that batch and determine which sleds are affected. I have seen this before with the auto manufacture that I work with. How many are really affected? How many of the affected motors will actually be turbo'ed? I would be willing to bet a very small percentage. Do we expect to call Yamaha and have them say " yes the 2016 Viper rods are no good?" Hell no. They are not going to say any thing until they know exactly what's going on and how they are going to fix it. I understand the frustration of some here with inability to turbo the 2016 Viper but some of the things said here are just foolish and accomplish nothing.

I have faith in Yamaha doing the right thing but it sucks sitting here with trails open and my sled still at the dealer waiting for me to ride it for the first time. I may have to ask for my money back if I don't hear what's going on by end of week. Wonder how that will go over at headquarters ??Man this thread is full of over re-action's. Looking for a refund or trading the sled, at full value of course, may be your next best action.I have faith in Yamaha doing the right thing but it sucks sitting here with trails open and my sled still at the dealer waiting for me to ride it for the first time. For a company that blows there own horn as a motor company first and foremost, this rod issue is unacceptable.
Lack of quality control on there part, this is the 21st century they should x-ray certain batches of rods to check for that. I for one am not going to say it's okay that this happened to Viper owners, I will hold them responsible and call them out. At $20,000+ CDN these owners should not be sitting on the sidelines with a sled that's now a bookend. I hope it all works out for you guys, if not use the lemon law and sue them in civil court.

Good luck with that. I am sure they will make it right. Screaming and throwing a fit will get you nowhere. This is unacceptable but let them get a chance to make good. Trade the sled in if you are un happy. Years ago I bought a brand new Artic Cat EXT. It broke a piston with less than 10 miles on it. Immediately after the diagnosis I asked the dealer to take it back in trade. They did, at full boat, and I received a different sled that day. If you act like a human you will get a lot farther.

Lol, you guys keep caudiling this company and you will continue to get what you 've been getting.
Ever wonder why the AC version of the same snowmobile isn't having the issues you guys are?
I've said it before and I will say it again the Japanese don't care what round eye have to say, they follow there own philosophies. I have worked along side them since the late 80's, in one ear and out the other.
