So it seems that the ones that do implode are doing so at fairly early mileage. I have 3500Km on mine and no issues. I cant verify my rods but I have not been babying it. It is clear to me that all of the rods in these motors are not bad, just some. It would be interesting to see if they are more or less model specific as they build all of one model then retool and do the next or build date specific and how many miles on them when they do go.

Hey I'm sorry to hear about the bad luck with your new turboed vipers
Can you guys please give us the build dates of your vipers that blew the motors
and the guys with no issues with there turboed viper if can also give us your build date
It would be nice to narrow down when the batch of mild steel rods went threw the assembly line!
This would help out allot of guys who plan on turboing and maybe help these guys to have the mild steel rods replaced by Yamaha
My buddy is planning to turbo his 16 viper this summer but we are going to do the scratch test on the rods before and if has the mild steel rods he will be contacting yamaha

Did they agree to refund? Where they going to refund the turbo if you were going to keep sled? This is not what I wanted to hear. If this happens to mine I would not take it back unless it had the right rods. Same reason as you...I bought it to go turbo 180 hp+Already told them to keep it.. Trading it in for 2016 m8.. Didnt want to go this route but 130 hp on 650 lbs is not what i wanted ,with turbo they are amazing, but without it its not what im looking for..

Seems like the dealer isn't going to bat for for you. Take off the turbo? That's basically saying the engine can't handle the turbo. They should be replacing engine and turbo and sending you on your way...

Get someone experienced to install aftermarket rods in it before they install the motor and see if yamaha will help out on the cost - even if you pay its cheaper then what you'll lose on a trade and have a good sled
I would demand full price trade on the new 17.
