Warning, -16 late build Viper turbo breakdowns, bad rods.

they should have told yamacat to do testing on the starter problem because the starters never had a problem on the 6+ years of the nitro 100% Yamaha!!!!!!
cat can do one thing sell a lot of ugly sled!

2016viper I realy feel for you. They stink !
They have a BAD warranty and dont give a #*$&@ about customer service ! Its a shame for a company that big!

I know have 450 km (280 miles) on my 16' Viper with MCX 190 turbo. I'm running at 6 psi pressure and it's working just fine. Sounds like the sleds that blew up, did it on low milage. Should i just keep on using it, or be carefull and replace the rods? In Norway we don't get warranty on boosted sleds.

I have 1200 Kms on my mpi turbo and will be cracking the motor to install aftermarket rods. I could get extended warranty at a cost but why do that and then risk an argument over warranty if she lets go on me. I can't ride with "rod anxiety" anymore so I'm biting the bullet and doing the upgrade myself. Would have preferred it blew up this year but not enough snow to put on serious miles so here I am spending another 2k on top of the 20k already spent. At least I will be able to modify my RPM and boost more without the anxiety of a long row to the truck.

It's just rumor right now but my dealer told me if you have a 16 that is turboed that Yamaha might be offering a rod replacement program of some sort. I guess it was something mentioned to him by the rep during to open house.

I hope the rumor regarding Yamaha offering a Rod Replacement is true.....sure would make me a happy camper again (this 2016 Viper is my 4th new Yamaha).

If installed maybe worth it but wouldn't upgraded rods make more sense on a modded (turbo) sled for future upgrades if wanted? Highly doubt even the new Yamaha rods are equal in strength to Carrillo.
