Warning, -16 late build Viper turbo breakdowns, bad rods.

And don't quote me its been 2 yrs but the carrillos were almost $300 per rod
The new rods are suppose to be stronger but apparently they are not.this rod should cost more like the Carrillo.maybe Yamaha is learning to much from Arctic cat on how to use cheap parts.

I hear ya. Ever since this relationship with Arctic Cat started, other decisions have been made that are making consumers question the Yamaha reputation for reliability. Rods are never a place to go cheap.

I think it is a stretch to think that AC had anything to do with Yamaha changing the internals of their own motor. I have it from a reliable source that the change was made to make the parts production more efficient as then the Waverunner, YXZ, and Viper would all share the same parts. Checked the parts fiche and if you look under anything with that motor (at least how Cat shows it) there is an early build and late build catalog. It appears the head, piston, rods, and crank are all different part numbers between the early and late builds. I have confirmed these parts numbers are also different with a Yami dealer.

Yet the Suzuki 1100 that cat uses in their turbo sleds is the most bullet proof boosted engine out there, that engine in stock form can run twice the amount of boost a yammi engine can in stock form, this is not an arctic issue at all.

I guarantee Yamaha will stand behind their factory authorized AND dealer installed 2016 turbo Vipers. The other huge expense of a ruined trip are on you.
COMPLETELY forget about YAMAHA backing any turbo...... ( in canada, maybe US policy is different)

I am fighting whit them NOW and they are ALWAYS throwing the ball at somebody else !!!

Here if the engine broke in the top! It is NOT guaranted!! Go ask the right pearson if you want!!! I DID!!!!!

They tottaly scewed their customers on that......

The dealer have to deal whit MPI direct for ANY turbo problem! They wash their hand on any related turbo problem!
Beside the crank and some chaincase part!

Dont forget also that they are dealing with a new supplier. Its possible that not all rods are bad just like its possible not all starter gears are bad. I admire that they dropped the supplier of the original parts if change was needed but then again maybe it would have been better for them to work with the original supplier and fix the issue be it quality or $ since at least they know where they stand with the original. I sure hope something is done. Everyone always says internet always blows things out of proportion. Maybe but the problems always seem to rear their ugly head it just takes longer for most or a very few just get lucky and dont see it happen.

One thing to keep in mind is that the cat compression ratio is a lot lower than the Yamaha. Hence more boost without problems.

This seems to be a problem with quality standards. Clearly Yamaha designed these new engines to be more versatile , so they don't have to make so many different engine parts for different machines.
My Geusse is Yamaha did all its testing to deal with stock engine hp. I can't see them doing much about it , if sleds that are left stock don't have any issues.

For sure, but the internals on the 1100 are all built extremely beefy, an 1100 turbo connecting rod looks like a big club compared to a viper rod, I myself would've hoped to see the new engine internals made more beefy and lower compression since turbos are becoming the biggest craze lately.

I sure hope they didnt do testing for just stock. Has to be another bad batch of parts or something. A rod is pretty easy to test and why would they accept something less than what they had?
