Which ice scratcher

When you need scratchers you need them. If it beats up the ski so be it. If it gets lost oh well. I rode a VERY icy weekend after a hard freeze last March in Quebec with no scratchers. When my Winder went into limp mode I rode it harder to get it to cool down. I would rather have had the scratchers than not. I rode another trip after that and it worked great and I didnt lose any parts of the scratcher. That pic of the scratcher on the ski is the other day in my garage so no noticeable damage to anything so far. Your mileage may vary. Snomoin aint cheap but it sure is fun. That is the Barn of Parts bracket. The other scratcher is on my Attak.

I do think the fact that the scratcher is pointed directly backwards will make a positive difference in the thrashing around and causing damage. If mounted perpendicular to the ski (or rail) the drag will tend to direct the tip towards the mount whereas with a simple bracket the drag will tend to straighten the cable out.

Then that's the bracket to use. I was going to install mine that way, but once the year starts, i leave my sled up north so it gets difficult to experiment. Looks like Barn-o-parts got it done.

I just installed mine using the BOP bracket. Seems very well done and a nice angle.

I have cable scratchers for several years, duraflex, on several sleds and never had a problem. Travis' bracket does work well. I gotta understand that coupling nut though to stow them.

I see many good reviews on dootalk for the OTTP(over the top performance) SKI MOUNTED scratchers.

Still not very pretty, but for the odd days when I may need them, just have them ready when certain tight trails occur and I can bolt them on.

Seem to work well according to many reviews.

Dan ,if you use these add a fender washer on both sides of the ski where the bolt goes thru for support .Also,if you look at the pictures i sent you ,i made different up holds as the ones that came with the scratchers didn't hold the scratchers up when not in use in real bumpy trails .

Rockerdan, ive got a brand new set of those style scratchers with the flipper at the end i bought last yeat.package has been opened but never installed.they wouldnt mount correctly on my factory yamaha ski.if interested let me know.thanks brother dan

They are made by over the top performance&are called ice storm ski mount.they are able to be used in reverse.i have an antique sled with aluminum ski mounts.(rx1 converted to 136 mono) im sure they would work on an all plastic ski

Scratchers suck , but they work.ive tried cable and the ac solid mount.
The cables did not work for me. They jumped off the snow and beat the crap out of the skid.
The solid ones work well for ice. Tuns of pressure and they throw a lot of snow! One down is all I ever need. The downfall is if you don't want to remove a wheel on the 137 you need to drill a mounting hole. They also chip the paint off the skid where they hook up. I'm going to try and mount a hook to slip them in instead of hooking the rail

I have a set under my running boards. I think a lot of guys underestimate that when you need them, it is because the snow is solid as a rock. Flimsy cables just don't cut it, not enough pressure. When both of mine are down, the plume of dust behind me is unreal.

The new ski doo, stubby rail mounted scratchers look like good ones. They can go in reverse, made of spring steel so will be good on hard days.

I just ordered a set of under running board ones for my sidewinder too actually. They are the only ones that work for a long time. My and my riding buddies never had good luck with the cable ones. They either loosen up on the one side, or they just shear the bolts and break off.

Do you have the SKI mounted kit, or the Skid/Rail mounted kit? I notice OTTP offers two designs, and they each cost abit diff.

The pics I posted are the SKI mounted kit.

It looks like some people have and were mounting the skid design to the ski, using a separate hole and bolt, where the ski design in pics, bolts onto the main ski/spindle bolt.

I was thinking I might grab a set of these, and have them ready if/when we get that odd type of condition where its needed. It only happened once or twice last winter, but it would be nice to have them ready to bolt on.

Not a fan of leaving them on sled permanently, too ugly for my OCD. lol

I wish I could say the same, we need scratchers a lot. All to often it will go from +5 c to -25 in the same day
