Which ice scratcher

Dan my man, ya just bought an $17k sled!! Send it!!! Lol
 
LOL.....i am afraid to add up what ive dropped over the last month or so on this sled, and sled has not even arrived yet....

Found em on ebay at least abit cheaper, and free ship.

I just sold my BRP adjustable riser yesterday, so that PP payment just arrived, so it comes in, and it goes out..lol

Will post more later in season when I mount them.

If mounted perpendicular to the ski (or rail) the drag will tend to direct the tip towards the mount whereas with a simple bracket the drag will tend to straighten the cable out.

I lived 20 min from that lake:). I mostly ride 1hour more north, no road no stop signs ....paradise!
March the trails are beautiful here, it normaly frozen at night wich is awesome for top speed in the morning and the air is better!.... we all know that scratcher is not a luxe it's needed and most people i ride whit put their cable scratcher directly on the suspension since a while on their CAT! Normaly in march around noon the trails change drastically and you need to be able to remove them fast. Otherwise you have 30pound of salty snow in the suspension.

I agree that Due to the running board coolers On my apex the best place i found was the sway bar whit a custom bracket.

I never liked that on the ski and never found a way to make them hold when not in use... i may be to hard on throttle:)

These are the ac ones you can buy from the dealer. To install them like I did on this machine you must drill a hole behind the wheel, being conscious of where the spring tang goes into the skid.

The pros of these scratchers are
- lots of down pressure
- tuns of lube on ice
- they can be flipped up out of the way with nothing hanging down.

Cons
- NO REVERSE when down.
- when on pavement they need to be flipped up so that the don't hook the edges and bend

A friend got trail blizzer on the rear after foot rest mounted ones broke twice on him. It was very cold and very fast rides. So far so good for him.

My wifes sled I have Duraflex on the rear which seems forevever. Very good quality.

I broke regular RSI's scratchers after having them for 5+ years. It seems the metal fatigues and after a number of years they break if the conditions are hard and cold.

So I got OTTP's for fun last year and so far so good. They are eating through my rail when stored up so make sure you install provided holder for them. Oh and without the holder in place one of mine drop down on my track and manage to do a fine job chewing the edge. doh!
 
I did the Qualipieces Trail Blizzer like Byam. I have used Duraflex for 5 years, so I thought I would try these as they have the coating over the cable. This is the way I installed on my other 2 sleds with no problems....
I was very reluctant to mount the heavy cable scratchers to the skis.......
I had an indecent a few years ago where the cable scratcher on my skid hooked something, riding in soft powder. I am not sure but think I rubbed a small tree and scratcher came off the rail.
Anyway when it caught something it really jerked the sled, almost a pivot. I was going pretty slow. It actually bent the 3/8" bolt....Scary it happened so fast. Threw me off the sled.
I would think if you caught something, especially at any speed the cable on the ski could turn into a violent turn or damage. They are pretty strong. They make lighter designs for the skis.
I look forward to hearing results from the Duraflex or Qalipieces that are ski mounted. Tomorrow I will work on the holder.

Your incident is exactly why the ski mounts I make are slotted and made to break away if they do get caught.
