WNYS Yamaha ride----January 18-21

Not sure what runs the group is planning, but Cherry Creek area out to Lake Chatauqua and surrounding is generally a good mix of fields and woods. There are some good hills too and if the Lafe Effect machine has been going the conditions are typically great. Running the Lake can be hit or miss and a lot of times it isn't as smooth as you might think to hold it to the bar - plus it's only about 6 miles long anyway with lots of ice fisherman towards the shore and a bridge that separates the northern and southern parts of the Lake. I get up there at least 3 or 4 times every year and it's among my favorite places to ride.

and 2 miles wide at it's widest point. And a surface area of 13,000 acres....shoot, we can just ride on the lake all week!

Lake races all week...Phazers get a 1/2 mile head start!! Ya know we love ya Dave. The ol' fartbox might not have the legs in the long straights but it sure can put the hurting on in the woods and in the tight and twisties. Nothing like turning your shoulder when you hear the fartbox blowing by you in a tight corner!

NO WAY! I hate that lake! We will be riding in the five western counties of NYS, if theres SNOW! Maybe we can meet up with the locals, or you could start out with us in Gowanda ny. We try to be out by 9 to9:30am. Thats, gassed up and ready to hit the trail. I have given details for the motel on the first page. Hope this helps. Honk

It seems so much shorter than that! The trail I take must not run the entire Lake then... and the part I run is always a mix of rough / soft / then crappy. But I'm usually there early in the year and late in the year, before we generally get hit up north. Oh well - I'm doing my snow / cold dance now!

Honk just looking some maps of the Catt/Chatt areas.....it looks like the trail (C1A) dead ends (south) in Salamanca...is there a way to connect to the trails in Alleghany State Park?

How long of a ride is it (by trail) from Gowanda to Lake Chattaqua?

Here is a GREAT interactive trail map for NY state, in case anyone is interested.

The Pat Mcgee trail ends in Salamanca. I'm not sure if there are plans on connecting it to the new trail that comes out of State Park to the Seneca Casino on I86. Hopefully they will now that the bridge crossing the Allegany river coming out of Salamanca toward Little Valley has been replaced. The only other way into State Park is from Portville but there are issues with the corridor trail. Part of it has been closed by a forestry company and we are trying to reroute through a secondary trail. The problem with the secondary trail is that they have been drilling new wells in that area and now plow the roads. Getting into the park may be difficult this season so I'd stay away. If I hear of any changes to the trails I'll let everyone know. The good thing is that the Chautauqua ridge trails can keep you busy for several days and if the snow permits, riding east through Cattaraugus, Erie and Wyoming counties will definitely rack up some miles.

:- Steve, Its about two good hours ride from motel to the lake, and theres a couple hours after also, unless theres to many Fart-boxes,(Phazers that is) Sorry!

:- Also, the Trail does end at Salamanca. Our Club, the County, and the State have tried to work out a deal with the Seneca nation since 2001. We cannot get through the Nation to the park without there OK.The Senecas have now opened a casino in Salamanca, and want a trail to it. They finally worked out a deal with NYS. The Seneca Nation of Indians Have started a connector trail from our main trail, to the casino, and then on to the park. They are spending their own money! Don't know if it will be open this year though. Will find out on the 2nd monday of Dec.

:- Think SNOW!! This is the latest ever with no snow! Since 1899 the claims
