Price of ecu
$500 (Yamaha) vs $540 (Bosch MG1). And again, if you invest in the Bosch then when it is cracked, you have zero extra investment. Thats the approach I would take, its that or pay Dimsport or one of the other 'core' tuners to crack the doo keys. I think they probably made the decision that with such a limited run of sleds, its not worth the cost/effort to crack the ECU and the potential upside of a working ECU if someone else makes the investment is worth it.

Well its $3000 for an ecu, midpipe and tune for the 900r.
$537 for a sidewinder flash bundle. Big price difference there.

small market, and trying to recover development investments = big prices. the winder flashes could be $50.00 if they (GAP) wanted them to be.

Hmmm....I kinda disagree. More people would rather modify a four-stroke turbo. I don't know of any other four-stroke Turbo with the production numbers of the 998. That's why finding a stock one is nearly impossible.Sidewinder is a smaller market...

I wouldn’t stop at 300Trailleader ...when street racing in the burbs of Chicago, one of the games played was not to reveal your cards. In a sense, basically lie about what you have under the hood. I'm sure your familiar. 350ci-416ci what's the difference?!?! Lol.
It has come to my attention the boost has several tunes, up to 250hp.
So, I have to ask myself...why would a guy of your caliper quit at 210hp?
Remember, the truth will set you free. Hahaha.
Mines only 209 hp

I run trail studsThey are not pump gas tunes though which will be evident by the smell in the parking lot. That would be first hint if it’s higher than a 20hp tune. That honestly is probably always accompanied by a sucked down sled loaded with nothing but chisels.
Should I complain
you have a tune
Not fair lol
This is hilarious
Just put in good gas and get rid of excuses and crying
I had chisels here
Sled with circle is a big gap turbo
That’s a long way out to have the boost next to it
Carry on fellas lmao

Sidewinder is not a smaller market than the Mach Z and 850 comp. Doo stated 1000-1200 850 comps total, and the mach z was rumored to be 1800. Maybe if you add in the ACE market its bigger but then you have to ask yourself how man of those customers are willing to spend another $3k-5k for performance upgrades, probably very few so the overall market is small and I don't think its worth breaking into the ECU for any other sled in their lineup. Maybe if you factor in the offroad market that changes things but I know little about how the brands are doing in that market.
The cost of breaking into a ECU can be quite high so you have someone like GAP do the hard work and hand the tools off to some licensees like Hurricane, TD, PEFI etc who pay a royalty or license fee of some kind for every tuned sled in a market which is reasonable sized compared to the initial effort to do the work to begin with.

You are right, I don't know, I only know why it would not be the route I would take. The winder ECU is still carrying some license fee payment to GAP. You still have to buy a new ECU, and any work you do on the winder to adapt it to the doo is all throw away if someone does get the doo ECU keys whereas all work done on the bosch can be turned into a low cost flash. Its more than just adding map files, its encoding and decoding canbus messages, figuring out what the dash wants and how it interacts with the sled, the smart shocks all have to be figured out... Its all of those little things that are annoying and take time.

THe bosh ecu is limited by the encryption chip. This has been replaced by PEFI and the smart shock reprogramed etc.
